I just got mine on Saturday. Any idea if anyone is making a wood deck for this one?

Very nice.

I enjoy virtually all the QE iterations, but the single combined stack is still my favourite.

Terrific model and terrific modeling.

Best Regards,

Sir:

Very nice build!

Might I ask whose paints you used, and which colors, and especially, what colors did you use for the deck?

Looks great!

Thanks for sharing!

G'day Mike.

I don't have a set formula for decks, and tend to collect various shades of tan. My standard method is a light coat of base tan, then various shades of planks lightly brushed on with a fine brush. The base coat should be light as it's easier to bring it darker with washes than the other way.

Added anchor chain (which I think is...overscale..oh well..), signal lights, aviation fuel tank, paravane/boat booms, and what I particularly liked, the ship emblem.

Dear "Potchip":

Thanks for the info regarding the deck paints, but I was also curious about which colors you used for the light gray and dark gray colors for the hull and superstructure?

I see you use acryclics, as do I, and I am always looking for good matches for Royal Navy colors.

Please advise.

And thanks so much for sharing!

Best,

Mike E.

I'm not the type to do extensive preparation on colour, often it's a case of look at a photo or 2, look at other people's build for inspiration, then have a look at what's available in my spare box.

The light grey is Royal Light Grey from Tamiya - I slightly darkened it not because of any particular reference but because the paint I use for touch up - Life Color's light grey (erm..unfortunately the number is no longer readable, a problem with most life colour bottle markings, the paint come off as easily as the paint it self!) is a shade darker and I wanted a base coat that can be easily painted over with touch up without looking off.

Because I'm lazy, the dark grey camou were hand painted with Life Color - I used Medium Grey in this instance but I feel it is a shade too dark for my liking, also the correct colour should have a tinge of blue/greenish to it which I didn't bother with.

All steel deck upper surfaces are painted Dark Sea Grey.

For pattern/colour references I primarily used WEM's Barham kit, and tossed the Trumpeter's colour profile as a matter of habit :)
