Re: Calling all IJN Akagi and Kaga fans
I finished painting my 2400 scale Kaga single deck & Akagi Tri-deck (ran out of bases for my single deck Akagi) - still need a tri-deck Kaga & Amagi. pained them dark grey with dark tan decks (& charcoal grey on tri-deck's mid level & turret roofs - still dark tan on lower launch deck).

Re: Calling all IJN Akagi and Kaga fans
Hi all,
I just received my 1/700 Fujimi Akagi DX (http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10230996) and I am slightly disappointed that it does not include the Fujimi/KA PE set (http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10114879). Just the wood deck sticker (with some PE deck details) and dry decal for the deck are included in the box. At first I thought it was just missing in my box but after checking the DX link above I realized the PE set is not included there, too. My mistake - but I post it here so that others are aware of this.
Also, after checking the Fujimi PE set at (http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10114879) I noticed it is in fact quite basic, mostly railings and deck edge nets. Most importantly, lattice supports of the flight deck aft are missing which is really a shame. I do not intend to go for the full Flyhawk set though I love its level of detail, but it would be too much for me. So I wonder if someone has any advice how to solve this. I have seen there are some PE sets for the Hasegawa triple deck Akagi (in version A http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10078830 and B http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10078831) but I am not sure if they would be right for the 1941 fit, which of the two sets I should choose and how good these will fit the Fujimi kit.
It would be great if anyone could help me!

Well, Lionroar has a similar deck and girder set-up. see: http://hobbystuffdepot.com/LionRoar-LE7 ... 62661.aspx

Re: Calling all IJN Akagi and Kaga fans
Thank you, Dan, but LionRoar is even more parts and $$$ than Flyhawk... too much for me.
Apart from Hasegawa's A+B PEs as above there are also sets by Tom's Modelworks (for the Hasegawa triple deck version http://www.tomsmodelworks.com/catalog/p ... cts_id=518) and Eduard (for the old Hasegawa 1941-2 version, http://www.eduard.com/store/Eduard/Phot ... 1-700.html) that include lattice supports.
Did anyone try to use any of those in bold with the new Fujimi kit?

Re: Calling all IJN Akagi and Kaga fans
Older question on this thread, but Fine Scale Modeler, a US modeling publication, just sent out an email to subscribers regarding this Deagostini kit of the Akagi:Bryan wrote:HELLLPPPP! I've been looking for such a model for days, now that I've found it, theat website is in japanese! Can someone help me out with that, or at least tell me how much it would cost in Euros or in $USDollars? PLEASSEEEE

The video at the above web page hints at the construction techniques and instruction format, and a link further below provides a build log for the kit: http://forum.us.model-space.com/default ... opics&f=53
Pricing is $1200.

Re: Calling all IJN Akagi and Kaga fans
The flight deck is individually planked, which is insane (but appeals to my very warped perspective). However, I have trouble when the words "model kit" and "installment payments" appear in the same sentence. It seems so wrong.
Now, if they had issued it in 1/200 instead of 1/250, I wonder how enthusiastic a reaction it would have received?

So it begs the question, what kit/scale would you be willing to pay four-figures on installment on?Dan K wrote:The flight deck is individually planked, which is insane (but appeals to my very warped perspective). To be honest you can get you some Evergreen sheet and some tubing and retangular piping and make the details yourself and would probably look better then photoetch. :)Vladi wrote:Hi all,

Hi DennisJP,
thanks for your comment, using various not ready-made materials like tubes and plastic is ok for me. However, I have no better idea how to make latticeworks in 1/700 other than using PE - cannot imagine soldering such parts or similar (though I am using soldering for masts etc.). Any hints or ideas are welcome!

Off the top of my head, without actually looking at a fret: if you have one of the GMM or Tom's PE sets for CA/CL or CVs, or auxiliarys, there might be a a couple of latticed crane booms that are wide/high enough to use with a little trimming. Not perfect but....
Or perhaps one of the dedicated crane sets from another PE mfg.

Re: Calling all IJN Akagi and Kaga fans
I just received an order from Panzerschiffe 2400scale - I already have Akagi Tri-Deck - I just got 2 more (1 for Amagi) they don't have Kaga available so I plan to KB the third Akagi into Kaga. I know the funnels are different - is there anything special I might want to conceder besides removing the side funnel & adding "duel exhaust pipes" to the sides?

Re: Calling all IJN Akagi and Kaga fans
Keep in mind that when initially reconstructed as a CV, Kaga was approx. 70 feet shorter than Akagi. When reconstructed as a full flight deck CV, that dropped to around 40 feet.

Re: Calling all IJN Akagi and Kaga fans
yes, thanks - but I'm not going into that much reconstruction. that would involve too much carving & would prob. never look right (besides it's 2400 scale - nobody will tell 70') (70/2400')Dan K wrote:Keep in mind that when initially reconstructed as a CV, Kaga was approx. 70 feet shorter than Akagi.
