Well gentleman, lets start the topics once again!

It seems like every model manufacturer known to man has produced a Bismarck (and then usually a rebox as Tirpitz). Models have been available in scales from 1/1200 to 1/200. I'm not going to list them all here.

Hey all, I just got the Tamiya 1/350 Tirpitz and I want to paint her in her June July 1942 Scheme G paint scheme ( http://www.bismarck-class.dk/tirpitz/pa ... rt_big.gif and http://www.bismarck-class.dk/tirpitz/pa ... rd_big.gif ) I've asked on several other boards (including this one) but no one can tell me what colors I need to use, so...... can anyone help???

Very ambitious - I like that scheme. Being that is was mid-1942 (which, IIRC, was just before they developed the Norwegian blue/grey colors), I'd say you'd be safe using the following colors:

For the light panels at the bow and stern: Baltic Hellgrau

From lightest to darkest for the other colors:

Hellgrau 50
Dunkelgrau 51
Dunkelgrau 2

I know White Ensign has all those colors in their range.

Does anyone know if she had the swatsikas on her deck in this scheme? Or did they remove them after they started moving/repainting her so often?

If you look at pictures of her from March, during Operation Sportspalast, she has at least a small one painted on her aft deck. From what I've read, that's pretty standard for Norwegian Ops, so I don't think you'd be wrong to add that. I don't know if there was one on the bow. If I get a chance, I'll look through my AJ Press books this week and see if I can find anything more definitive.

Martin, for the camouflage scheme I want to do I've heard some conflicting answers, I have yours (the greys) and then someone else has said that they are a combination of greys, greens, and browns. Any insights on this?

Not really - some publications (AJ Press, for example) show these colors to be greens and maybe browns. Other sources (can't remember off the top of my head) say they are greys.

Bottom line - it's your model. Paint it the way you want it to look. Personally, I'd go with the greys, I think that is more likely, given that the ship had recently transfered from Germany and probably had those paint stocks in hand.

The overhangs were trimmed with a very sharp knife (I actually use scalpels from Swann-Morton) Where I can I turn the piece upside down and make sure there is good pressure holding the pieces to the deck. Run the blade with progressivle firmer pressure until it is through. Just be careful when you reach the end of a run. Sometimes it is better to start pulling the cut the other way to prevent splitting the wood.

Follow up with sanding from the top side always moving downward or at most sideways to prevent ripping any of the deck up.

I usually buy the longer lengths, the width seems to stay more consistent.

This was probably mentiont sometime before but...On operation Rheinubung, liferafts on Bismarck were yellow,right?

The answer I got for this question a while back was that they were a kind of dark tan color. Don't know if it was 100% accurate.

im new to this model ship building lark,

here are some screen shots of my TIRPITZ i have modelled on my computer. It was a project to allow to practice my CAD skills, i just a heller 1/400 set and the program is Pro Engineer Wildfire 2.

I have been building the model at the same time as modelling on the computer.

Its still work in progress.

Just wondered what you guys thought, i posted in the computer modeling section but no one posts in there!

After my Fletcher is completed, hopefully in a month or so, I will start work on my favorite battleship, the Bismarck. However, I will have some trouble painting the swastika... My Jewish parents would never allow it! I don't think I could even paint it on their myself. Whatever, I'll see what to do when the time comes.

Some interesting facts...

During this last engagement 2,876 shells were fired at the Bismarck. They are
itemised as follows:

380 of 40.6 cm from Rodney
339 of 35.6 cm from King George V
527 of 20.3 cm from Norfolk
254 of 20.3 cm from Dorsetshire
716 of 15.2 cm from Rodney
660 of 13.3 cm from King George V
71 torpedos

Some of these were fired within close range. Moreover, neither the main belt nor
the armour deck were penetrated during the combat. Bulge was never penetrated
by torpedos. Superstructure was completely wrecked.
