3D CAD Files of Weapons Etc...

Post by jasonfreeland »

Is there a resource for cad files of weapons and other details of ships? I see a lot of referencing to purchasing them from various builders, but haven't seen any files. As the maker space I belong to has plenty of 3d printing and CNC machining resources, I would prefer to print or machine my own. Thanks.

Have you checked out our Virtual Modelling section? I recall someone posting a free model on there recently that you should be able to experiment with.

I had not scrolled down far enough to see that forum, thank you. From the looks of things I may have to up scale or just print large models of individual systems. The 1/700 stuff I was wanting to make aren't going to print right. Most of the design work I have done so far has been medical stuff, so the experience doesn't directly translate.

The printers I have worked with would be a challenge, someplace like shapeways has better ones. You could order stuff printed on theirs.

but shall the missile/bomb fins (especially sidewinders) be fine enough without breaking ?

Probably not in 1/350 scale. I would think using etch/brass sheet for fins etc. would be the way to go in 1/350.
