If you're thinking the BB Shinano with the 10cm secondary mounts, Fujimi's "Phantom Weapon" Yamato kit includes those, and while the pictures show the twin 20" mounts, the turrets and barrels for the original 18" triples are included. It's essentially a kit that can build Any Yamato Configuration you want, including the Super Yamato.

Hello, I was wondering what is more correct.. the Wood plank or steel ? i always see both represented.. I would think wood due to lack of supplies , but one never knows with the IJN

Well, wouldn't the wood have been painted grey anyway?

Maybe it wasn't wood. Not sure why you would want wood on the hull so close to the water. It would rot and warp.

Re: Calling all IJN Yamato & Musashi fans
What is more accurate...the new Tamiya 1/350 Yamato or the 1/10 Yamato Museum model?

Both models are exactly(almost) the same. The museum have made countless corrections since the model was completed back in 2005.

Thank you Atma. I didn't know the Kure Yamato got updated. Very good info to have. So if you guys want to use the Kure Yamato as a reference make sure you get recent pics.

Im from Norway and I live in Oslo(sometimes you can find me in Greece too). But I go very often to Japan to meet with my associates there at Fine Molds, Fujimi and Tamiya. Next time I will go to Kure Museum I will try and bring back a fresh batch of pictures.

Re: Calling all IJN Yamato & Musashi fans
Can you tell us in what ways the Kure model differ from the Tamiya model?

Re: Calling all IJN Yamato & Musashi fans
Im not expert on that matter, but Tamiya has informed me that the difference are small, thier model are based on 2012 and onwards works/research, Kure last revision was 2011 but is planning a revision for mid 2014, so I guess by mid 2014 the Kure model and the Tamiya will be identical(if not new findings will be discovered in that small time frame -2012-2014-).I have to send an e-mail at my friends at Tamiya. I will post the replay ASAP.

Re: Calling all IJN Yamato & Musashi fans
The most obvious is the error in the number and shape of the open AA batteries on deck. (Unless that has been fixed.) We've talked about that quite a bit a few years ago on this eternal thread.Senkan wrote:Can you tell us in what ways the Kure model differ from the Tamiya model?

Yes this has been corrected last time I was there, 2012 December.

Excellent! Mind if I ask you what you do for a living that takes you to such exotic places like Japan?

Re: Calling all IJN Yamato & Musashi fans
Question for Atma,
Is it possible that when you meet with Tamiya the next time that you can ask them if it's possible to produce a Rigging diagram for all the aerials and other wires for their new tool kit. To my knowledge their is nothing available online or in books that is complete and precise. For those who have the new tool kit they could provide something in PDF online at the Tamiya site free of charge.
Also if you talk with Fine Molds please ask them if they are willing to look at making a rigging kit for IJN ships with wire, rope and hanging hardware. They could use PE parts or resin. I think this could be a popular item for us ship builders.
Thanks!!!
Jim

Re: Calling all IJN Yamato & Musashi fans
I have a paper model of Yamato and it shows a basic rigging layout. I'll take a photo and post it when I get home from work. I can't vouch for it's accuracy.
