Calling all Queen Elizabeth-class (1914-1947) fans

I'm building a QE from 1918. The Artist Hobby PE kit has literally a couple of DOZEN reels. There are five cast onto the deck of my kit (Trumpeter), and two more mounted on the side of the superstructure below the bridge. I looked at every QE-class photo that I have, including RA Burt, and I can come up with only one or two more. None of these locations are aft of the boat deck. Four of them are right up front under the guns of A turret, behind the breakwater. Am I missing a few?

I assume that these are fire fighting equipment - but QE was of course one of the first oil burners. Where were provisions for oil hoses kept? They seem to be very large hoses from the UNREP photos I've seen - but then again, they might well be with every oiler and dock, rather than with the ship.

Those mounted on bulkheads below the bridge, were likely CORDAGE reels. Generally smaller and lighter than the heavier HOSE and HAWSER reels. From my available 1918-era Q.E. resources, I find a total of SIX deck-mounted reels, including the four you noted that were abaft the breakwater.

Two others are seen on the boat deck, both of them to port of the ship's centerline. There appears to be one more, but I cannot tell if it is a deck-mounted reel (making a total of seven), or attached instead to the port-side bulkhead of the aft shelter. These boat-deck reels, whether two or three in number, do not "look like" hose reels.

Go to the Warspite site at http://www.warspite.dk/super.html. Click on items in the image in the upper left corner. This is a super CAD drawing that shows a variety of interesting things. The site is well worth exploring.

There are also reels for wire cables. These can be mounted on any surface and are small.

George - that's certainly an interesting site, although I didn't find anything that would relate to this specific question. I guess I need to figure out something about CAD. It's just getting too prevalent in too many areas of modeling to ignore.

I also had a bit of trouble seeing most of that site from my iPad, although it seems to have loaded fine on my computer, if others are having trouble later.

I have a question RE Warspite's secondary battery. When the ship was modernized, the battery was reduced. Were the remaining guns also relocated or just reduced in number? The reason is that I just received a 1/700 Warspite kit along with Barham. Warspite's 6" guns don't seem to align with any on the Barham. Shouldn't they line up?

according R.A. Burt Battleships 1919-45:
Forecastle flare was extended aft almost to A turret and widened so that the side flushed with what was formerly the second 6in gun port. The side was plated up over main deck casemates aft and decked over.
Based on this and the drawnings in this source, no relocation.

So let me guess this straight...if I used the Trumpeter 1/700 Warspite and Queen Elizabeth WW1-era kits, will I be able to model the RN Grand Fleet's 5th battleship squadron at Jutland?

The ships in the squadron were:

Barham
Valiant
Warspite
Malaya

Or the differences between these sisters are too numerous to use multiple copies of either Trumpeter kit?

Thanks. So Trumpeter didn't put enough research into making the Warspite 1915 kit? Oh well...

On a slight off-topic, the thought of using the upcoming 1/700 HMS Dreadnought from Trumpeter was also attractive, but the actual Dreadnought missed Jutland...

Our local IPMS here in Vancouver/Burnaby, BC, Canada has the theme of "World War One" for its October show, which is why a Jutland modelling subject interested me...

The Artist Hobby Queen Elizabeth upgrade set has significant options for pre-1917 details, and the PE is very, very nice. I haven't actually checked the set against a Jutland configuration, though.

What colour are the ships boats? Are any of em blue? Coz i quite like the look of some blue boats.

Can anyone advise if the Pontos upgrade set will fit the Trumpeter Warspite kit (1/350) specifically the deck, since I'm reasonably sure the masts/barrels etc will fit without to much trouble
