Which primer to use for acrylics?

Hi

I have been using krylon sandable gray primer and never had a problem until today. I was priming a Chinese sub and the primer accumulated at a spot on the bottom of the hull and I didn't noticed it and left it to dry. When I checked the plastic on the hull had been slightly melted, I was really surprised (It's not ruined I just will display the sub on the opposite side of course when finished).
So I finished priming it with Tamiya flat base X-21.
I am just wondering what you all use for priming acrylics.

I like the Tamiya spray can primer. It sprays a smooth, fine coat of paint that also adheres well to the model and any photo etch. Unfortunately it is a bit pricey.

I use Mr Surfacer 1200 thinned with Mr Thinner. It works on resin AND styrene without peer.

I LOVE Krylon Matte finish. It sticks like crazy, leaves a nice fine surface that has a great tooth to it for subsequent acrylic layers.

I have some Krylon Matte finish. Might give it a try. I'd like to use it in my airbrush. Will it thin with alcohol?

How well does weathering work over the Krylon?

My krylon matte is in an aerosol can. I use it for everything. It receives paint beautifully. The surface it makes is like an ultra fine piece of paper. Slightly toothy.
I wouldn't try thinning it or anything like that. It's sublime as it is in the aerosol can.
I didn't know you could get it in a jar...??

Quick question regarding the Krylon Matt Finish, I take it you use it as final sealant after you've done all your weathering as well?

I was going to spray the Krylon Matte Finish into the airbrush. I want it thin and if I do put it into an airbrush I want to be able to clean it out w/o using spirits.

Was also thinking of putting some paint in with the Krylon Matte. This will give me the undercoat color I want and will show those fine seems that need to be filled. Just hitting it with a clear coat won't show me that.
