Thanks you guys! I had a good day at the workbench. Got a few hours in and after finishing with the hangar walls, I decided to paint the Tilly crane and finished it as well.

I appreciate the comment Medic08. I used various photos and during my search I found this. Click on the link and it will take you to it. http://www.turbosquid.com/3d-models/3d- ... sel/704401 This website is absolutely great for detail. They have other useful subjects for carriers as well.

Doug you knocked that tilley crane outta the park! Having done the same conversion a few times myself, I know what a pain in the ass it can be, great job man. I have not tackled the crane for Reagan yet, but you might have just convinced me to step up my game a little when I get to it!

Thanks Nicolas, NWarty, Ryan, and William4443. I saw that Boomstick and Ryan had received their shipments for the new released 1/350 Veteran Sea Sparrow launchers over the last couple of days. I had mine on order and when I got home today, they had arrived!!! WOOHOO!! I had been waiting to see what these baby's were gonna look like and like other Veteran aftermarket details.....they sure didn't disappoint. They also come with some ordinance. 4 Sea Sparrows and 4 ESSM's. I saw that Ryan had posed a couple of these missiles on his Reagan build. These things are pretty damn sweet. I added some comparison photos of the Tamiya kit part and the Veteran offering side by side to see the size difference of the launchers. I also built one up and posed it on the forward starboard platform that I have yet to attach to my Enterprise. Anyway, as you can see in the photos, the Tamiya kit piece (as stated by other modelers as well) is grossly over-scaled. The Veteran parts, as far as I can tell, seem to be closer to scale, plus pack a ton of detail. Anyway, check em out!

looking good Doug ^^)
Q: Just for interest sake, does this come with its base plate, or do you have to make your own one? I see on the supplier box that it stands on one. (I know the enterprise does series do no use a base plate, but for future builds on other projects)

Thanks Silvershadow,

The base plates are included with the kits so if you need or want to use them, they are there. They have some rivet detail on them as well. You are correct in that Enterprise doesn't utilize the base plate for the launchers and was the reason I have excluded them. The Veteran kits give you enough parts for 4 launchers, plus the 4 Sea Sparrow and 4 ESSM's. I had thought about adding a review of them in the aftermarket details forum, but I guess I got a little build happy as soon as they arrived....... :cool_2: Hope this helps.

Just a short update today. I finished painting the majority of the deck tractors and equipment. I had to start a small Goodyear factory for all the tires! :heh: Anyway, what you see in the photos makes up for about half the deck tractors I will be using. Although there are some decals for the fire fighting deck tractors in the photo, I opted to hand paint everything, no decals used. I still have all the forklifts and the deck scrubber yet to paint. I will probably use some of the decals for the deck scrubber though. Those would be a little too difficult to replicate with painting. They're coming along though.

Awesome!!! Looks fantastic. It's a really time consuming job, sometimes mind numbing since it's so much repetitive work, but in the end it was all worth the effort. I really love this, sadly sometime a camera don't do justice to how these super tiny pieces look and feel in real life. :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1: well done!!

Yeah I know, which is why I pose them next to a penny sometimes, but didn't on those photos.

Hey didgeboy, the deck tractors and vehicles are all resin. They are from two different companies. All the deck tractors are from Blackdog and the Tilly (heavily modified) and other deck gear are from Admiralty Model Works. There is more information on page 13 of this thread as to where to find them. I added some links on the page 13 post that should help you out.

Hi Doug,

Just have to say your skills as a builder are impressive to say the least. I've just finished re-building the stbd fwd sponson using yours as a template, with the PE mesh, mine is nowhere near as clean as yours.

Keep up the good work, you have the hands of a magician :thumbs_up_1:

Thanks Steve, hope to see you posting some in progress pics of it soon! :thumbs_up_1:

I have been at work on the hangar still. I worked on detailing the hangar openings and getting them painted. The "protruding stems" on the walls you see are shelving for wooden crates. I don't know what the crates have inside them though. Earlier in the thread, I had added an actual photo showing these and their use.

I've have also got the hangar deck floor painted with the initial first coat but still have more to complete there. The following photos show the detail I added to the openings. I again made them "inserts" which the first couple of photos show. It was much easier to detail and paint them in this manner, then attach them. It worked out well. The latter photos show the inserts in place in the #4 hangar opening. I still have some more markings and caution lines to add. The hangar is all starting to come together now.
