Calling all Kriegsmarine Deutschland-class (Panzerschiffe) fans

If you want something different, while not German or Deutschland class, I'd go for the Dutch De Ruyter. She was loosely based on the Deutschland class and cast an almost same profile.

that's a light cruiser - hardly a battleship - & not a very successful one. - the PB's were re-rated "cruisers" mainly for political reasons but should be rated as light BC's - they had light armor and high speed but with 28cm "Battleship" guns, that rates then as "Capitol" ships - at the very least they would be CB's - on par with the larger US Alaska class "super heavy cruisers" which had 12" guns. both were more powerful than any "Pre-Dreadnought" Battleship.

A battleship doesn't always make them interesting. Look at the Yamato... She was a battleship, not very successful....

The question was about the Deutschland class and building something different. De ruyter again as mentioned wasn't a Deutschland class but the design - mainly done by Germans - is definitely something different and interesting and again a similar looking vessel to the German class.

Have settled on portraying Deutschland in her 1937 guise of the Spanish coast, been looking into a variety of sources as well the ones provided! Hopefully some of the scratchbuilding can commence this weekend!

I thought it was for posting build photos too - don't tell me there are still more separate forums for each ship - don't even know where that one is - too many different places for a single ship class as it is! - anyway - nice work on the seaplane.

why are there different forums for the same ship class? - each ship should be 1 forum so you an find the info you want. are there different forums for general discussion on each class's merits/weakness/history etc... ?

There's no ship-class thread in the Picture Post section - it's only for you to post your build log. Just look through the Picture Post threads and you should get the idea of what it's for.

Hey everyone. I just got a boat load of 1/700 ships already built in the mail. Problem is the packaging wasn't done very well and all the ships had parts broken off. One of the ships is the old tool Fujimi Deutschland. I was wondering if anyone has a copy of the instructions they could scan or point me in the direction of the instructions online? Also does anyone have any spare metal barrels or photo etch they can get rid of?

Others may know better but AFAIK Fujimi never updated this kit though subsequent boxings. Hopefully what I've linked to is old enough tooling.

Hello guys, I have been searching online and throughout my references on the Graf Spee. The aft fire control station (the deckhouse immediately aft of the aft 10.5m rangefinder is depicted in most sources as an enclosed structure with no apparent purpose, but I have reason to believe that it was in actuality an open facility. It appears to act like a smaller version of the fore observation station just aft of the forward 11" turret. An open aft observation/ fire control station is something that has an analogue on all the other heavy Kriegsmarine units.

The aft station appears to consist of an armored deckhouse with viewport slits, topped by a 10.5 meter rangefinder. Aft of this appears to be a platform with a couple binocular stations surrounded by high splinter bulkheads. The height of these bulkheads may be what confuses people to think that this area is fully enclosed.

What are your thoughts on this issue? I have enclosed two photos to explain this issue beter.
