Another PE railing question...but slightly different

Hey all,

Okay, so I've done a search on this forum, and I'm feeling more confident about getting some railing attached to the multitude of ships that I've been collecting, but here's the deal: I get�and understand�the need to use PVA / Elmer's glue to attach PE in order to avoid the dreaded "pings" when expanding/contracting. However, my question is this: when applying deck railing, does it go inboard of the deck edge (so that the PE railing is inset about a mm or so), or do you apply the railing to the edge of the deck where the hull and deck meet on the model?

Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated!

I put mine as close to the edge as possible. In the 350th and 700th scales, any attempt to apply inset would be overscale.

Whatever you do, be consistent. Whether you place them inboard a mm or so or flush, do that EVERYWHERE. What looks bad is to have some flush and some inset. Scaled accurately, I'd guess that the railings are more often than not pretty darn close to the edge, if not flush. I like to have a small space, about .5 mm from the edge to make a V-shaped groove wherein I can run a neat bead of PVA glue with a small brush to not only resolve the crack at the bottom, but to give it more strength.
My favourite PVA glue is Weldbond. I find that it grips really well.
