anchor and chain colour?
Can anyone tell me what the proper colour (if there is one) is for anchor chains on an old sea-going trawler? How about the anchor itself?

Re: anchor and chain colour?
I've noticed this in old chains (other than anchor chains), they rust, but when they are frequently in motion and rubbing against each other and other things, the rust wears smooth and becomes a semi-matte dark brown color.

I figure the anchors are cast, and are either painted boat colour or black. I am guessing black and rst for te chains - unless someone has a better idea.

Re: anchor and chain colour?
The part of the anchor chain that is on deck will generally be painted neatly. (Black, grey, whatever). The part of the chain that normally lives in the chain locker will be various shades of rust.
The anchor, as said previously, could be painted black or grey or pink, if the owner wants to please his wife. But whatever color, the edges will show more rust color than anything.
For your old trawler, since there are no rules, you can pick your colors. The brightness of the paint would be dictated by recent in-port time and available cash, given that you don't make money on "pretty".
