1:700 DKM Bismarck, now 10-year build.

Post by Ronald47 »

Hi all,

Here the start of a Bismarck build in the small scale. I use this a a fingerprint for the bigger 1:350 build I already started but afraid to go on with. This build gives me the opportunity to get used to small PE stuff.

For the build I use:

- a Trumpeter Bismarck
- a Eduard PE set
- a extra door set from WEM
- and a set figure of Eduard.

The kit is longer in my posession, I used it before to test a new aquired spraygun. So there wasn't much used.
As the base deck pieces where already glued together I started the upper build. Eduard has designed the kit for Dragon and soon I found out not all fits the Trumpeter well. Started with the sides:

For the side decks there are two metal decks. i scraped the place where they should come:

And glued them piece in place:

I also did the other side, and prepared the catapult. Folded the catapult piece:

And glued it in place. I smoothened the top side straight so the piece would fit properly:

Assembled the front bunker, it needs a scratchbuild front yet from styreen:

Then I started the hangar building with the kit pieces, and scraped the door clean:

It also doesn't fit that good, some small scratchpieces have to be fitted yet. I placed the walkways from Eduard with the railings still down, that way a proper fit is possible:

So, the beginning is there!

Hi all,

I found a old topic of my of this build I want to continue. This ship is standing in my showcase unfinished now a good 5 years!:

Yes, that is a 350 unfinished sister behind her :cool_2:

So now that Photobucket screwed us a long time ago I reloaded the topic with fresh photos from my Pro-Flickr account. Luckily I saved the photos from 2014 on my harddrives and cloud.

Will continue!!

Hi Martin,

Yes, I hope so :) It seems something that belongs to us plastic modellers.... we start, build and getting enthousiast over something new... and start buiklding that and not finishing the existing. I admit that is one of my problems

My plan is to kick this one to the end of the year and hopefully try to finish it.

I'm not being critical of your work, but consider this: scrap this project and get Flyhawk Bismarck Deluxe kit. Much quicker build - no problems or corrections to deal with - comes with dedicated PE which fits perfectly - is actually cheaper than competitors when you consider the amount of AM needed for them - and the result is a beautiful model. I was struggling with a Dragon Bismarck which I thought was the best, until Flyhawk released theirs. I bought the Flyhawk and scrapped the Dragon, and I don't regret it.
No connection with Flyhawk, just recommending an excellent kit!

Thank you very much, your advice is much appreciated! :thumbs_up_1:

I'm too far in this build, she is approx. 60% ready. Yes, it would be wise to start over but I have to admit; I'm too stubbern to abandone this one :) So I move on and struggle ;)

Wish me luck!
