While I am probably the only Sci-Fi geek that absolutely hates everything about the original star trek series, that enterprise came out great james. The subtle weathering is an especially nice touch.

I believe that. there are a ton of people out there that will pay good $ for the enterprise. I toyed with the idea of getting into it a few years ago when ship business was a little slow for me, but found that I just don't get enough enjoyment out of the sci-fi modeling and knew that i would not be able to really put my heart into it. some day i'll get around to doing one from TNG though...

Just put the finishing touches on this LVT-4 w/105mm howitzer tonight. The blue hemispheres are a result of the fact that what should be a clear part is moulded in the standard '70s era Italeri Orange Cream. Frankly I'm fortunate to have gotten on so well in this OOB build:

Oh I remember that one! I did one when I was 11 years old... back when I was still innocent and unblemished. The finished vette was less than unblemished by the time I was done with it but it sure was fun to play with.

I had to take up building other subjects to convince myself that I can finish a model in less than 6-18 months; ships, although a passion, can on occasion become a wee bit tiresome. Planes and armour out of the box (or reasonably close to that) are excellent light relief. These two have both been started and finished during my current ship build (which is still ongoing); another plane is virtually finished (and the ship build remains ongoing).

Completely out of the box which just so happen to contain aftermarket engine cowl, seat and decals. That's the joy of buying at local model shows.

Airfix's Scammel 1/76 (or 1/72?) tank transporter and Revell's Cromwell VI

I couldn't resist carving some plastic on the cromwell to thin stuff out and add bits from brass and styrene. No PE, repeat, no PE allowed!
People should build more old kits when they start griping about the quality of new ones as they don't know when they are lucky; that Airfix scammel is old and it shows

I also build OOB armor and aircraft kits, and it's always so nice to be able to get good results without spending more on a resin cockpit (and/or other accessories) that can end up costing more than the kit itself! Last year I built Tamiya's 1/35 Cromwell OOB and it turned out quite well; if you know what you're doing, you can quite easily get realistic track sag with the vinyl lengths most companies provide.

There's not much in 1:700 besides warships and accessories, - save the occasional Japanese castle. Tomy-Tec of Japan however has released a small line of real space models: a line of US space shuttles, and this beauty: the International Space Station. I've followed the ongoing construction of the ISS since 1998 and at one time I bought the ridiculous 1:72 kit by Heller. (note: that kit omitted the truss structure and solar panels completely). That project foundered, because for someone used to 1:700 warships, a ridiculously large model in 1:72 is just too much out of the comfort zone. So, no ISS on my shelves. Until last week.

The kit is prepainted and is almost of a snap-together nature. Because of the nature, aligning all trusses, modules and thingamabobs is quite daunting. Also, some small things are misrepresented: the small Russian Rassvet module is shown offset 90 degrees (easily fixed) and the solar panels on the Zarya module (first module launched) have long since refolded to their accordeon appearance to avoid the humongous radiator arrays jutting from the central girder. That will be trickier to fix: one does not simply cut and fold the rather thick panels. The plastic can be rough around the edges with some mold flash here and there. Along the Zvezda-Zarya-Unity-Destiny axis, a nasty seam remains visible, which can not easily be hidden.

Several additional spacecraft are supplied: a Shuttle (the Atlantis), a Soyuz (at least one short there), a Progress, the European ATV and the Japanese HTV. Sadly, no SpaceX Dragon or OSC Cygnus are present.

This kit builds to a nice enough representation of the ISS, small enough for a desktop or shelve. Comparing this outpost with, say, a WWI battleship is a nice engineering contrast. In the last image, compare her to a Tamiya Fletcher-class DD!
