Generic PE?

Post by svaz »

Please forgive the question but I'm new to ship building:

Are there generic PE sets for things such as railings, radars, cranes, helo nets, etc., or are all sets specific to ship/class? BTW, so far, 'my fleet' consists of 1/700 & an inbound 1/400 Tarantul.

Thanks!

Check out the different manufacturers on the front paige of this site. Most offer different things seperately such as extra ladders rails, radars and such that are not geared at specific models.

You can find most of what you will need in 1/700. It could be you will need a mix of frets from different manufacturers, but if you check their sites, you will find what is on each fret.

You may have more of a problem with cranes, they tend to be on ship-specific frets so be prepared to chop up an existing crane.

Most radar and also rail types are fairly readily available.

Cheers,

Thanks gents. One other question: Is the size difference in 1/700 vs. 1/600 railing really noticeable? i.e. can I use 1/700 railing on a 1/600 ship? How about 1/350 railing on a 1/400 ship?

Thanks!

My personal opinion,if You have the money, invest it in proper size railings,If You don't care the size difference,go with the railing that You have, the size difference between 700 to 600 is about 14%,350 to 400 is about 13%

The difference is very noticeable I'm afraid. Miguel is right, if you have the budget, spend it on the correct size of railings.

If you stay with a consistent scale for series of builds, you can use generic stuff such as railing across several kits. Most railing frets give you more than enough for one ship if you are lucky.
