1/700 Most wanted new plastic kit

I've been waiting for a year for Hasegawa to scale down their 1/350 Gambier Bay to 1/700. C'mon Hasagawa - everyone else does it! (well Trumpeter and Dragon at least)

As far as new plastic kits, my choices would be:

Casablanca CVE
New Mexico BB
C3 AP/APA/XAP
Sims DD

I would imagine Trumpeter would follow up the interest Italian WWII ships with more Med related models.

I also think that any new model will have to be a ship that had many sisters in order to be a good investment.

Thus I would like to see the following..
Some rather obvious,

QE class ships. Warspite, Queen Elizabeth, but also Malaya and Barham, considering the many variations over the years this could yield a great many kits.

Illustrious class carriers.. Victorious, ILlustrious, and so close Formidable, and Indomitable at least 4 models, possibly more with early/late options.

this is a bit of a stretch.. Glorious, Courageous
Town class cruisers.. so many famous names.
county class.. same thing.



Zara, GLoria, Pola... and the fourth who I forget right now.. likely and would go well with Battle ships.

More American Battleships with early prewar /reconstructed late war look.. again many options per kit.

Companies like Zveda seem keen to make the one off's so they might be good choice for a Furious, or Iron Duke, or Eagle. any of the interesting ships which are overlooked..

none listed - same as 350 scale - more turrets - better - already have 700 scale "US Big 5 Battleships (Pearl Harbor Maryland-West Virginia)" - came with twin 16" & triple 14" so I can make either if I want.

I'd also very much like to see any of the Big 5 battleships- of the Colorado and Tennessee classes- in either their 1941 or 1944 configurations. And I would prefer plastic kits from big companies like Tamiya or Revell, even though smaller suppliers like midship models/Blue Ridge do offer them in resin.

Fortunately, for those who like the Colorado class, Trumpeter recently released the USS Maryland in her 1941 configuration. It wouldn't take much work to bring her to 1942 configuration.

Those of you who like the other ships could probably just substitute the Maryland for her sister Colorado in 1941 and 1942 configurations, or the West Virginia in her 1941 configuration.

For those who want the Tennessee or California in their 1941 configuration, and want to kitbash using the Maryland Trumpeter kit, it may prove a little tricky unless you can find a supplier for triple 14 inch turrets. I myself have been trying to find Pitroad's 1/700 US Navy ships' spare parts kit to no avail; I'm not sure if Tamiya's IJN ships' spare parts kits has 14-inch turrets.

Well obviously I haven't opened my one Trumpeter 1/700 USS Maryland kit yet.



That makes life much easier since you gave me an source for Tennessee/California in their 1941 configurations.. Though my local hobby shop's owner might raise his eyebrows in surprise if I did order 4 more Trumpeter Maryland kits if I do want to finish my Pearl Harbour battleship row collection.

So far the only models I've found online of these ships in 1/700 are scratchbuilt by another guy from Peru, I think, who made his own mold to mass produce a series of post-war Colossus class carriers.

HP Models and L'Arsenal did them in resin. Check with them to see if they are still in production. Plastic kits of these ships aren't totally unlikely in my opinion but you'd probably have to settle for kits of the designs as built. It might not be practical to do all the different subsequent modifications in plastic.

The RN cruisers, especially, are woefully under-represented in plastic. Granted, the 1/700th market is tilted towards the IJN by its nature. But in recent years the manufacturers have given us significant numbers of WWII USN cruisers; time to expand that attention to their RN counterparts (not to mention certain other Allied & Axis nations).
