BRM "Arsenal Ship" first impressions.

Post by PetrolGator »

Being a huge fan of oddball, "what if," and "never were" designs, I just had to buy a copy of this kit when FreeTimeHobbies announced it. The Arsenal Ship, numbered as a fictional USS Arizona, would have been a massive missile platform, akin to a modern battleship.

The kit:
Blue Ridge Models uses their USS Montana hull as a base for this ship, adding a plethora of missile silos and modern, stealthy bridge. The warship also boasts a single 8" forward gun, rumored to have been an auto loader like its smaller 5" cousins. Mold is crisp and precise, with only some small pitting under the bridge that will need filling.

Included in the box:
- One huge hunk of resin
- Orange Hobby RIM-116 (two packs for a total of six launchers)
- Orange Hobby Phalanx Close-In Weapon System (four in the pack)
- Tom's Modelworks railing. This is, honestly, some of the most fine railing I've seen in this scale.
- Brass barrel for the forward gun
- UH-40 helicopter in clear plastic.

This kit can either be a very simple and straight forward build or can be easily added to if the builder prefers. Personally, I plan to scratch a tripod mast like the Arleigh Burkes... just because.
