Said it before. Will say it again. You are a lunatic. A complete, bloody lunatic. That is some SICK work on the PomPom.

Indeed
Normally I'd say it only gets worse but I think I hit my limit this time... though the gun is not finished yet
No modeling this weekend, this beautiful girl is taking me out to see the Norwegian Fjords...

One down, two to go. Soldering the sights was tricky, holding the PE part with tweezers in one hand and the soldering iron in the other still have to add that curved bar from the portside sight to the guns but I think Ill glue that one having spent too much time trying to solder it.
No really, I feel fine.
(No I don't; I'm actually down with a nasty cold, and I think I finally met my fun barrier.... )

Re: 1/350 HMS Hood (scratchbuild)

My most time-consuming and difficult subproject is done! The picture was taken with flash showing some discoloration between the various layers and making the models overly bright but in normal daylight conditions they look gorgeous. These are easily over 100 parts per model and I'm glad they are done. The pompom on the bandstand is a different model but it is very difficult to tell: one less horizontal bar connecting the elevation gears, some slight surface detail on top of the gun blocks and minor differences on the surface (forward) detail of the ammo trays. There are some more differences engineering into the PE you won't notice at all (why do I even bother
Things you should note if you are building HMS Hood is the deck color below the guns and on the vertical surfaces, and, that the barrels have NO conical flash suppressor.

Can't wait to see this finished. How far along do you think she is?

Absolutely unbelievable! Those pom-poms would look amazing for 1/96 scale but the fact they are 1/350 boggles the mind.

What the hack ....
And the master of HMS Hood and parts is knocking me out again with his quality of work and result! Never, really never saw such genius 1/350 Pom Pom's before! Awesome ...
The advantage of wisdom is that you can play dumb; conversely, it is more difficult.

Re: 1/350 HMS Hood (scratchbuild)
Thanks guys! I don't think I'll ever go into higher detail mode than this because the time invested is huge. Learning all the tricks to build them, building them, redesigning them and starting over... but now I can start thinking about a production version with resin and less of the very small PE that is difficult so to handle.

So, when do you start to print miniature recruiting posters to man those pompoms?

I'm going to build HMS Hood minutes before her engagement, so nearly no one on deck

Re: 1/350 HMS Hood (scratchbuild)
According to the original plans of HMS Hood, a set of signalmen shelters were built between the fwd Hacs pedestals and the superstructure.

There isn't much to go on what isn't already on the official HMS Hood site, but I suppose they reused the beam that was already present (top left). A number of voice pipes can be seen crawling around the bridge.

I added some semirandom detail with the voice pipes ending near the signaling area.

Adding railings was a skill I once had but now it seems to go fine. Too bad that stupid ladder hits the railing; this escaped my attention during the design, unfortunately. Perhaps I'll replace the ladder or make the hatchway smaller... (rebuild the entire bridge, perhaps? As punishment such an oversight?
)
The stairs are all designed to each individual deck so that the spacing between the lowest and top level is equal... hope that works out!
Oh, this last image was taken by my simple Samsumg Galaxy S4. Quite nice!
