William: thank you! Re: the bottles - that arrangement is modular and is actually sitting on a shelf now: I just had no idea where to position it. Will correct.

Re: the ladder in the middle of the 01 deck: I knew I was going to catch hell for that one! I have not modeled the hatch yet, and wanted to show the ladder (you can't see it yet, but the internal deck and bulkheads for the main deck below are all modeled in this area) and didn't want to create one without handrails just yet. As I recall from my 3 years onboard a WHEC, we did have similar arrangements - the ladders usually did not have handrails coming up above the deck, but could be configured that way for special occasions (open houses, inspections, etc.). Of course in this case the full hatch would be open - not just the scuttle. I seem to remember the hatch would be propped up on two supports at (at least) a 45-degree angle to the deck.

Somewhat hilarious, just checked my model and the hatch casting I used for the surrender deck has the scuttle, which is wrong....

Randy, you've created a new game for us to play.
Find the details aboard the Missouri.

The thing I found is the tube attached to the face of the 20mm shield needs to be larger diameter.
It is a 20mm spare barrel/cooling tube so it would need to be large enough to hold a 20mm barrel.

The stanchions supporting the saluting gun platform (where the 20's are) should have their bases almost next to the deck edge waterway, which is about 8" wide. They are in line with the lifelines and used as supports for the same.

Moved the 20mm gallery stanchions outboard as far as they would go. Note the location of these parts is not specified in the plans I have. Note also the maindeck waterway is not yet installed.

Raised the shelf for the acetylene tanks and added legs per the photo in Tom's post.

Re: spare barrel tube. Note the second image which is taken from the Missouri Plan Book from FDD. These dimensions are represented in the current tube. I also have a drawing of a 20mm cannon in 1/24 scale. Careful measruements show a max diameter of the barrel part of 3.1". Of course, this does not take into account measurement/reproduction errors. So in the spirit of compromise (and given there have been other rather significant dimensional errors in this data) I increased the tube diameter to four-inches. But the jury is out until someone confirms

Better view of the bottle racks. I believe this is the same area as Tom's photo, 02 level forward of the missile deck. We were patching the expansion joint to cut down the internal leaks on Iowa.

Yep that's it though mine was on the port side. Better photo. I remember having one there but couldn't find it. Now all we need to do is find out what bottles were placed there? My model being a late service Missouri has bottles there, though only the racks apply to Randy's project. The expansion joints are an interesting feature and might have been interesting to watch in a seaway!

Aboard Iowa today took some photos of the bulkhead outside the Captain's stateroom, 01 level. Interesting that Iowa has storage for Unrep fixture. Not to say that this was originally bottle storage during WWII.

About 80% done... some of these details are too small to print in 1/200, but should be very nice in 1/96.

New area of activity.... does anyone have dimensions for the various hatches on the 5-inch mk 28 mount? I'm specifically looking for the side access hatch (front-lower corner of each side) but will take anything you have. Note that I do have Ordnance Pamphlet 805 and while it contains gross dimensions, it doesn't even show this hatch on the drawings.

Small notes: the hoods for the pointer and trainers for the main turrets are more rounded. The main deck lifeline stanchions as well as the ones on the 01 level fwd are in the form of a tapered I beam and many are hinged at the bottom such that they can lay flat in the waterway. Extensions for awning supports fit into a sort of cloverleaf fitting on top.
