Hi Jim, yes I've a couple of photos showing current progress of my model but what I can't work out is how to attach them either to this message and/or the forum - any clues how to do it please.

Hi Mike - have you looked through the guide to using the photo attachment tool?

@ Timmy--does Mike need to be registerd to use the photo attachent tool?
@ Mike-- You can either register-if my above assumption is correct- or you could send me then images and I can put them up for you--I would be very interested to see a scratchbuilt model in 1/600
my e-mail address is jbys1@tiscali.co.uk

You're right Jim, he does. But I see that he just created an account, so it should be ok.

Does anyone know where I can get any of the 5" guns for the Missouri that was being offered by Steve Larsen in 1/192 scale?
Thanks, edmigley51146@aol.com

Re: 1/192 USS Missouri BB-63, 1945
I think the problem is the file size of each of my photos - that's what the system is objecting to when I tried uploading them as attachments.
I'll have to take some photos with my digital camera as opposed to the smartphone. I've been able to upload my digital camera photos in the past, so hope they will be okay again.
Bear with me chaps. I'm concentrating on trying to get the model finished by August when I shall be exhibiting it at my societie's bienniel exhibition. The society is the Society of Model Shipwrights.
Most people who look at my model think it is finished now but I still have a lot of detail to add - some like the OS2U (Kingfisher) floatplanes still to make. Missouri was commissioned with these - certainly had them during 1944 - date of my model. I think these planes were changed to the Seahawk on 18 Dec 1944.

Re: 1/192 USS Missouri BB-63, 1945
Following on from post a few days ago, I've taken a few photos of my 1:600 scale, scratch build, model of USS Missouri - BB63.
The model represents the ship as she was in August 1944.
To finish off the model I've a lot of small and tiny fittings to add.
These include railings, guardrails, rigging, aerials, one of the floatplanes, a launch secured to one of the boat booms, rest of the floatanet racks plus the floats in them, and plenty of other bits of equipment.
Every time I look at the photos of the ship at that period of her life, I see something else that I have either missed or realise that no matter how tiny I should make the attempt.
Sorry about the poor quality of the photos. I may be a half decent modeller but I'm a lousy photographer.

Re: 1/192 USS Missouri BB-63, 1945
Mike, your BB-63 is fantastic! You've inspired me to rebuild my 1/350 Tamiya Missouri in the 1944 shakedown scheme. I'll just have to remove the Mk.57 directors and trim the platforms to match the 1944 configuration.
In the meantime, here are more pictures of the Gibbs and Cox builders model in 1/48 scale. Truly inspirational stuff.
Ed and Joe, sorry to have been away for so long. I do hope that you were able to get some Twin 5" mounts that you wanted. If not, 3D-printed mounts and other fittings are now available here: https://modelmonkey.wixsite.com/modelmonkeyEdward Migley wrote:Does anyone know where I can get any of the 5" guns for the Missouri that was being offered by Steve Larsen in 1/192 scale?

Here is a photo of two of the improved resin Twin 5in/38cal Mounts cast from of master of my own making. [Edit: these resin mounts have since been replaced with 3D-printed mounts of my own design.]

Re: 1/192 USS Missouri BB-63, 1945
Broken links to photos of the 1/48 scale Gibbs and Cox builders model have been repaired. I took those photos in 1987 when the model was on display at the Smithsonian Museum of American History in Washington D.C. It had a room all to itself.
As an aside, in addition to designing the Iowa class battleships, Gibbs and Cox also designed several other classes of US Navy warships to include the Fletcher, Sumner and Gearing classes of destroyers. The firm also designed the liner SS United States.

Re: 1/192 USS Missouri BB-63, 1945
Thanks so much!
I'll try to get some new pictures up shortly. The model suffered some minor damage in a move and is presently under repair. Nothing too serious, though, just broken masts, bent radars and some of the railing on the upper levels got the squish.
A 1/350 USS Saratoga and a complete rebuilding and improving of a 1960s-era 1/25 scale Tiger I tank have me consumed at the moment.
Thanks again, your comments are very much appreciated!

Re: 1/192 USS Missouri BB-63, 1945
DJHa, you may be please to know that in an effort to make 16"/50 cal. turrets, 5-inch/38cal Mk.28 Twin Mounts, Mk.38 and Mk.37 directors with improved accuracy and much more detail, I decided to design them for 3D printing and offer them for sale on Shpaeways. That way they are available to anyone else who would like them.
They are available in many popular scales including 1/700, 1/535, 1/400, 1/350, 1/200, 1/192, 1/144 and 1/96. Catalog: https://modelmonkey.wixsite.com/modelmonkey

Also available separately for larger scales, separate Mount Captain Blast Hood. These are the same hoods that come integrated with larger scale 5"/38 mounts, both twin-gun and single-gun (1/200 scale and bigger).
