Jose - I was also almost sure that they had circular aiming system. But double checks showed up - NOT - or I could not find any unit with circular aimings...

on plans looks OK:

Since all plaforms have been designed and build as scratch before going to details I wanted to check if they fit each other:

I think this build is in danger of signalling the end of plastic kits and photo etch "extras" ,with "photo etch kits" becoming the norm and "plastic extras" being produced instead...

Stunningly well planned build , well done...This could well be a contender fof the best 1/700 scale build ever... :thumbs_up_1:

Excellent work with the range finder towers Greg! :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1: I was wondering if you are going to make the main turrets out P.E too?

It's not decided yet. Fujimi made good job here and turrets are quite nice. From other hand - I made sample turrets for my next project IJN Hiei:

and indeed - by using PE items the level of details could be far better:

I don't know...

Why do you think the Fujimi Hiei turrets are inadequate? Or, are you just pushing the PE envelope for fun (fun being a relative term for the rest of us)?

 :cool_2:
I used to be a paper modeler.... For me plastic is a kind of "non bendable" material... In some way. Brass is like a paper but more precise  And I like it very much

I think that's the inclination came from... In fact Fujii did great job with new Kongo's series. Hiei turrets are just perfect in term of dimension. What is turning me is to have more detailed armour plates on top of the turrets. That's the only reason...

if you can pull it off and i know is not simple but after seeing what you've accomplished i'll say go for it and make them out p.e or you could enhance the detail at your own discretion.. either way give it your own touch! and.. keep it coming Greg :thumbs_up_1: :thumbs_up_1:

Thank you ... :wave_1:

small update - painted platforms.... I'm not quite happy. To many gaps and uneven surfaces... :mad_2:

I decided to cover rounded corners with mantelets. Kongo class caried mantelets in early 40s but most likely not during Guadalcanal campaign.... :-?

Anyway leaving open gaps wouldn't be nice.... I made them from plastic rod 0.5mm:

after deformation looked quite OK:

Brilliant! I am learning much from this build. This would be a fantastic build in 1/200 scale. But in 1/700, it's truly a wonder.
Have fun, Monkey around. TM

hello :wave_1:

this is how protecting mantelets look like:

Image

AA 127mm guns ready - look like this one:

Image

Image

AA 25mm also ready:

Image

Image

I think I have reached the limit here... and cannot get more from PE bras...

Image

Image

Image

boats platforms ready:

Image

to make detailing process of emergency boats I designed special fret. The goals of the design were to have them easy to paint and also high detailed equipment. I separated deck and superstructures of the motor boats and also made inferior equipment for boats. The fret is compatible with all newest Fujimi injections. We will see how it'll work out...

Image

and this is second attempt to 120mm searchlight. Assembled very fast and veerry unequally:

Image

Image

Image

i still need to work on this design a bit .... :)
