How is Battleship Missouri, a Kagero super drawings in 3D title, in terms of accuracy?

I like mine, and it will be a big help for when I build the USS Wisconsin which was much the same to the USS Missouri. Lots of good details also has a small drawing that can be pulled out and used or enlarged for larger boats like I am doing in 1/96 scale. I think that I will also order the Iowa one that they have as well.

Can anyone confirm that max elevation for main battery was 45-degrees? How about max depression?

Yes 45 deg max elevation. I haven't come across the depression as yet but WAG -5 deg. Depression could be important if a list developed. Prince of Wales in her last action had difficulty training her secondary battery on incoming bogies due to a list. Yamato may have had similar issues, end result for both ships were similar.

Navweaps cites -2 degrees for turrets I and III, and 0 degrees for Turret II.

Took just a bit but found TC's reference, the only thing I might add for your purposes was the loading angle was 5 deg.

Couldn't invest too much time this weekend, but here's the current state of the focsl area. This render is a medium quality run, so you won't see all the details. I'm re-rendering it now at a higher setting, but it won't be ready for at least an hour. The complete model now comprises over 1,000 "parts" and 200 assemblies. I have three different configurations defined (low, med, high detail) as when all details are visible, the model is starting to bog my system down considerably - and I have a reasonably fast computer/GPU.

Tom: I have several of your suggestions still to incorporate.

James: I think I understand re: director structure but I can't look in detail until the render cycle is complete.

Can anyone point me to a good detailed set of Hull line drawings for the Iowa class? I am particularly interested in a set of hull drawings showing a fairly dense contour lines, longitudinal and transverse sections through the aft hull, around the skegs.

Sumrall's Iowa class battleship has a set of hull line drawings, but I like the transverse sections to be closer together at the skeg area, where the shape of the hull is fairly complex.

Also, Missouri by super drawing in 3D has a set of drawing which appear to show horizontal hull plating seams above and below waterline. Are these accurate? Where would one find a illustration of plate seams on the bottom of the ship, as well as the design and locations of various openings on the ship's hull?

Go to The Floating Drydock website and look under plans for IOWA class drawings. Also, they have a MISSOURI Plan Book (also available as an E Book) which is highly recommended for anyone building a detailed model of these ships. I think you'll find what you are looking for.

I picked up a set of Floating Drydock's 1/192 TFW Missouri plans; I highly recommend them. I haven't been able to find a good plan for the hull plates and sea chests however... I'd say your best bet is to dig through photos of the Iowas (especially in drydock) and draw out your own. Luckily there is no shortage of pics.

I've got another random question for y'all... are there any pictures of the interior of the bridge of Iowa/New Jersey before they were modified (i.e., original open bridge configuration)?

As far as the bottom goes there are some cross sections of the Iowa hulls which show the plating lapping and attachment at a number of frame stations on the hull. Not a complete solution but perhaps combined with other data such as photos of some help. Some of these sections are in such books as Garzeke and Dulin and Friedman. The Sumrall books have a number of drydock and launching photos which may also be of assistance. The Missouri grounding report has a photo showing a jammed up sea chest.

Question for you guys that I need confirmation on; did any of the Iowas other than the Wisconsin get a Flag Cabin built on the 01 forward directly across from the CO's In Port Cabin during the 1980's refits? From looking at photos and plans the answer "seems" to be no. That being said the official USN plans for Wisky (corrected to 1988) show the original staterooms still there but there is indeed a Flag Cabin. On the exterior there is a WTD leading to a light lock on the port side forward just like on the starboard side that leads into the CO's Cabin. From looking through photos I can't find a similar port side door on any of the other ships. What say you gents? Is this just another little item that makes Wisky unique or am I missing something?

CB - Sorry, I can't help you on this one - I'm concentrated on NEW JERSEY in her 67-69 guise and her modern config. hasn't gotten my attention as you yet. I think you're correct in the statement that each ship varies somewhat in the latter day superstructure arrangement. The CIC's and CEC's in the ships varied as well, after NEW JERSEY led the way in 81-82.
