Ultimate Yamato ? Chibimaru Yamato DX

Post by Bill Clarke »

When I saw this along with Musashi and Akagi , I couldn't resist buying it.
I know these are a novelty, like their egg plane counterparts, but they really are nice little kits.
No idea what scale these kits are though.

What do you get in the box? 6 sprues, 1 sheet with stickers on it and 1 set of PE parts.

Main deck is one piece and has nice plank detail, that will surely please even our resident Fujimii plank basher  and there is even anti skid tread on the very forward section of the main deck.

Like wise the main hull is well appointed and split in two, with the portion below the waterline molded in red, that also has stiffeners to give the hull some rigidity.

The open 12.7's have the main body molded integrally with their tubs, and the tubs have anti skit tread on them as does the major assembly they attach to, very nicely done Fujimi.

The search lights have the shutters molded on to them and the bridge is also nicely detailed.

You get a sticker sheet, that has a main deck (with cut outs for the deck fittings) replacements for the fronts of the search lights, bridge windows, radars, funnel cap (why I cant fathom), rear deck walkways, blast bags, and the funnel boot topping.

The real standout here is the etch fret though, and it will fill out the ship beautifully. There's a full replacement for the rear deck, catapults, radars funnel cap, funnel foot rails, ladders for the main guns and rear of bridge, and railings for the deck, bridge wings, and rear director. One item missing from this fret that appears on the photos of the ship with the PE attached are the aircraft rails for the rear deck.

Anyway, check out the photos, and here are some links for those of you that would like to buy this kit.

I bought Akagi too, but there's no PE with it. Also, the deck "sticker" has no cut outs for the deck fittings. Hope they (Fujimi) bring out a wood deck replacement.

I have a 1/200 Yamato kit w/ wood deck & photo etch kit included. All new & shinny---- I would sell. Not any showing up on ebay lately. I have some health problems and am reducing my fleet inventory (to be built)
