Thanks Goerge,
I'm glad you like it my friend.

Hi PeeJay,
It's been quite a while, how are you doing my friend? The items are not in John R Haynes on line shop. You have to E-mail him directly for the items. John mostly sells 1/96 scale fittings. He wouldn't be able to sell many of his 1/128 scale items. John can be reached at this E-mail address: johnrhaynes.shipmodels@virgin.net

The following are the list of items that John has that would be of interest to anyone building a Lindberg Blue Devil. This was copied from the E-mail John sent me on April 30, 2013.

I am waiting for my caster to get me some more oerlikons moulded but I do have the initial run to hand as well as the following
Bollards
Torp tubes
Hawse lips p+s
Closed chocks
36searchlights
Depthcharges
Oerlikon lockers
PE stanchions
Mk51 director
Pelorus
Compass
26ft whaler
If you give me quantities I will get back with a cost including postage and you can pay direct into my PP account. One 1/96 Torp Tube is 4 and can be supplied
John
Ps Will not bring 1/128 fittings into my shop since I think the market isnt there to justify stocking up

When I receive the items I ordered from the list, I will post photos here. I'm hoping to have the fittings sometime next week. :cool_2:

As always, check back for more on the Haggard!!!!!!!!

Hi Everyone,
I just received some 1/128 scale USN DD fittings from John R. Haynes for my USS Haggard DD-555 that I'm building on another site. It's based on the Lindberg Blue Devil kit and is R/C as well. When I became a member of WMU more than a year ago, I inquired if anyone knew if Mk-51 and Mk-27 directors were available in 1/125th scale. At the time they were not available. Neither was a quality 20mm single Oerlikon in that scale to be found.

Most of these fittings are new products made by John and they are not in his online store. If youre interested in these fittings, all you have to do is E-mail John and place the order. johnrhaynes.shipmodels@virgin.net

This order was placed on May 2nd and I received them today May 15, 2013. John Haynes quality and service can't be beat!!!!!

I photographed all of John's 1/128 scale fittings next to his 1/96 scale fittings I got for my DD-473. With the exception of the Whale Boat, Mk-37, and the 36 inch Search Light. I did this to compare the different scale parts to show that the smaller parts are as highly detailed as the bigger 1/96 scale parts.

The twin 40mm Bofor is from HR Products and the centerline structure and bulwark were scratch built for my DD-555. I wanted to show that the guns and the Mk-51 were the same scale.

As I mentioned in the first half of the 1/128 scale fittings post, these parts are not in John's online store. You must E-mail him to order his 1/128 scale fittings. I hope you like John's 1/128 scale fittings as much as I do.

As always, check back soon for more on the Haggard!!!!!!!

Thanks for the info. I was able to contact John Haynes and get a quote. While I was "negotiating funding" I got an e-mail from John's Shop that the 1:128 fittings might not be available for very long. Even when I got the quote, the torpedo directors were not available, but they will be easier to model than the Mk 51's. I got an agreement that the order would be my "Fathers Day gift" and confirmed that the fittings were still available, so I sent out the order. I am getting the Mk 51 Directors, compasses, pelorus, 36" Searchlights, hawse lips and chain covers, and 20 MM single barrel Oerlikons. That will give a real kick start to the USS Van Valkenburgh build. New thread to be posted soon.

Still waiting for a confirmation of the order, but I do have a copy of the PayPal confirmation of payment. I figure that it is a time zone thing, and knowing that John's shop is a relatively small business, he will get to it soon enough. In the meantime, I have to start profiling the sheer of the hull per the plans. Not too big a mod, but does improve the profile.

Hi PeeJay,
You don't have anything to worry about with John Haynes. I have done a lot of business with him. John's the best of all I have delt with. You will be very happy with the fittings you purchased from him.

On further investigation, found a 'stutter' in the email address I gave PayPal for John (2"J"s up front). Should have it all fixed now. Just lost a little time.

Hi Everyone,
It's been a while since I posted anything on the Haggard. I was successful in performing RC bench testing and I am happy to say that the Haggard will make its maiden voyage very soon. :cool_2:

Take a look at this short video to see the bench test. My 7 year old daughter was at the helm while I was operating the camera. :heh: :heh: She's very excited to pilot the Haggard during its maiden voyage, but I'm not sure if she's ready for that just yet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iMpe6Fjom4U

As an added bonus, the DD-473 was bench tested the same day. :cool_1: Both of my Fletcher's are in the same stages of completion. Maybe they will have their maiden voyage the same day. :woo_hoo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GyD3A3Xmga4

I just saw on another forum that John Haynes has closed his shop for family reasons. He says his fittings will still be available through his retailers, but only while they last, so if you need anything else of his for your Bennett, you better get it now. Glad I got everything I wanted when I did for the Van Valkenburgh.

Hi Peejay,
I haven't done anything for a long time now. I've been busy with all kinds of things except what I would really like to be doing.

I know that John Haynes has closed his online shop and it's sad, but none of us live forever. I'm sure John's fittings will be available for a while, but the resellers prices are higher than if you were still able to buy directly from John even with the currency difference.

Hopefully, someone will buy John's business and continue to offer his beautiful fittings. All we can do is wait and see what happens. I'm very fortunate to have everything I need for the USS Bennett and most of what I need for the USS Haggard.

One of these days, I'll get back to the shipyard and the builds will get underway once again.

Nice to hear from you, Roger. I know how "life can get in the way."

The hull on my Lindbergh Fletcher has had the shear line marked for cutting for months, but other tasks have gotten in the way. Things are easing up, however, and I hope to get back to it soon.

Glad to hear that your Bennett has "a well equipped shipyard, " and pictures of Haggard indicate that you can't be missing too many parts. I hope you can find what you do need at one of John's retailers or from a different supplier.

We are already nearly a month into Spring, but best wishes for this new year.

Same story here:

I did get time a weekend ago to assemble a tool cart with a drawer for what will be the "Shop Area" in my garage. The drawer allows me to start organizing tools and parts so I can stop putting them in little boxes that clutter up what will be the work area. The top of the cart holds my scroll saw, so I am now able to roll it out the side door of the garage when I need to cut some parts, rather than having to haul the saw in its whole box outside and set it up. That should help a lot.

The main part of my plan is to make space to put up a new workbench in a "L" pattern at the end of the one that is already there (but so cluttered it can not presently be used for any real work.) I have already purchased the new one, but need to clear the area in which it will be located. The new one has a pegboard backing, and I have bought pegboard-compatible tool holders, so that will also help me get organized and remove a lot of clutter. It also has drawers and a shelf below the bench, lighting, and electrical outlets. Once the original workbench has been cleared, I will be able to mount a vise on it, which I purchased ages ago.

In the meantime, the hull of my Van Valkenburgh "to-be" mocks me from the top of a pile on the workbench. However, the holiday season has now come and gone, so the probability of making time to get back at it is increasing. Once I actually have a place to do the work that I can "drop in" on from time to time, things will be able to start moving.

Best wishes and much empathy for you, Roger. Sending strong wishes that you will be able to get underway in this new year.
