Does anyone have detailed drawings of the search lights they can post? There is none in Skulski's book detailed enough for 3D printing.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Yep, was hoping someone out there had some drawings I could use...

Maybe I could use the ones off my 1/350 Tamiya kit and then scale up...see what happens from that venture.

I modified my stock nichimo searchlights. I put a small piece of round styrene at the base and sanded the side supports to give it a more angular look. I'll try to post pics on Tuesday.

Thanks for the pics...only wish there were dimensions and then I'd be off to the races. Its curious that Skulski's books covers most everything else but nothing on the searchlights. It shows where they go throughout Yamato's refits but no details.

I went into my Yamato Library and found these drawings. I hope they can help you out. These are all found in the ModelArt Super Illustration #745 IJN Yamato book that has been out of stock for years now. I highly recommend this issue if you at all interested in Yamato Drawings. The price might be high, so just trade for this or sell your first born with a little cash.

These are all different then the CAD images I posted above. I would rely on these over the Cad ones. The book these are from were redrawn after the dives on the wreck. Being japanese drawings, they should be very accurate to what was found on the bottom of the ocean floor.

Gerry,

Skulski's book has them on around page 176 under H Fittings H28/1 - H28/6 that includes the one dimension for the lens. Should be some help for you!

Baseballbrat,

Checked Skuski's book again and found the searchlights on the page you mentioned. Not sure how I missed that page...that will help a lot especially with the scale listed. I will have to do a lot of measuring but it will work end the end.

Thank you very much for all the help!

I'm just going to modify the stock searchlights. Not sure how far I'm going to take it. Plan on covering the lens with something that looks like canvas (probably going to use masking tape. Anyone got a pic of an IJN searchlight with a canvas cover?

They insulate the wire antenna stretched between the ship's masts from the support stays and the metal of the masts themselves.

If I also may add, they also diminish any lightning strikes to the wire.

So Paul Allen of Microsoft found the Musashi today, and would like to know what this valve was for: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/B_G7x4tU8AAO-Dh.jpg:large

That bow photo looks like the chrysanthemum fell off.

Kanji character now looks like the word open.

I re-corrected myself after reading the twitter comments saying something else.

Allen says more photos and video to come soon!!!
