And here is the results of the linoleum color being painted over the was. Some pictures show up better than others. It is really easy to notice the molded on lines that would be the brass tie down rods now, even in these pictures. I really like the effect. Now I just need to improve the technique going forward.

I have finished airbrushing the grey. Anything else that needs to be painted from here on in will be done by hand. I have to admit that this technique was rather intimidating as I was attempting to freehand the airbrushing. Where I do have areas to clean up, I am quite pleased with how close I was able to get things.

There has been some. I will edit this post later and add some pics I have. Mainly going through the absolutely tedious task of adding the brass rods to the linoleum areas of the deck. I have also started work on the water for the base. Then decided to put all this aside and go back to my San Francisco for a bit. Even though I have done a fair amount of clean up on the hull on that, there really appears to be little to show for it at the moment.
As promised here are the pictures of my latest on her. Any glare or funky color/reflections are because I took the photos while inside the case from Grandpa's Cabinets (shameless plug for an awesome product).
As always, comments and suggestions are welcome. Thank you for looking.

It is funny how work stalls when you are not happy with how it is turning out.
I am ripping off all of the brass rod and going to use the Flyhawk deck tie down set. This is happening for two reasons: First, I hate the fact that it looks really out of scale. Second the rod sometimes rolls and I end up with glue from Hell to Breakfast and it looks horrible despite my best efforts to remove it. Thanks to all who offered suggestions in the main forum to said dilemma. While I wait for the Flyhawk set I will likely start working on other sections like the funnels to get them ready to attach.

Re: IJN Nagara
I understand your frustration. As a general observation, I have to wonder if it's worth it. The actual tie-downs were 30mm wide. In 1/350 scale (and converted to inches), that works out to .0033". That's the width of the brass PE tie-downs included in GMM's 1/700 ultrafine IJN railing set. So, even though the Flyhawk set looks really good, it's still way out of scale. This is why I have my doubt about trying to replicate tie-downs even in this scale.

Re: IJN Nagara
I started thinking about the scale and what you were saying there. The size of the tie downs would be so small that it would difficult at best to make look right. Then I remembered the color photo of her posted in the CASF IJN CL thread. Looking at that you cannot really see the tie downs at all. From a scale perspective I think I will simply leave them off and just build the rest of the model. On later ships like Yahagi and Noshiro, or larger ships like Tone and Chikuma, were their tie downs the same size?

According to Skulski, the width does not change.
I've created a FAQ about the IJN tie-down strips to help folks with some facts and comparison photos here: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=159424

Re: IJN Nagara
I've just started the 1/350 Isuzu and have purchased a couple of the FH 1/700 tie downs sets for it. These are about .007 wide, so yes horrendously over-scale - technically - but I'm going to use them anyway as sometimes your builds are also going to be representative in part as well as accurate. They look petite enough to the eye for me and I like the detail 'effect' it adds.
Also, if you're going to be pedantic, how many other features of the kit are over-scale? Overhanging decks? Splinter shields? Masts and spars? Small weaponry? Anchors? hand rails? Winches? Tread plate? Breakwaters? And so on, and so on.....
Personally, I would encourage you to consider these strips, simply for the effect they provide, despite a [small] lack of accuracy.

I certainly understand about representative. I'm never 100% accurate.

Yikes! I'm having a bad use of wording foot-in-mouth moment.
I in no way meant to suggest that anyone is being pedantic. Rather that it could be OK to stray from being completely accurate when considering add-ons given that kits generally are not spot on in many ways.
Sorry.

Re: IJN Nagara
No offense taken. It is ok; no kit can be perfectly accurate. My point is that if one is striving for accuracy in terms of scale, it's borderline for 1/350 ( I can see possibly doing them in this scale for myself) and completely unrealistic for 1/700. The point I was trying to make here, for this particular build and the angst it has generated, is that the tie-downs are not a necessity.

Re: IJN Nagara
No offense taken here either.
I do agree about many things being out of scale. I think each part is a choice. In this case it is less headache (and money) for me to simply leave off a detail that would not really be seen. Although there are plenty of things I divorce that same logic.
As of now I have removed the tie downs and have almost finished cleaning up the left over mess it generated on my deck. Work on everything else is about to resume.

After ripping up all the tie down rods and spending time to clean up the mess I managed to get some new construction done.

After painting all of my PE and working on the small fiddly bits that belong on the decks I was able to attach said bits as well as the structures between the funnels.

I am not happy with the way this kit is turning out so I am going to muscle through it and do the best I can none the less. If nothing else I have learned a lot. Working on the funnels now. Photos to come in the next day or two of them being completed.
