I am getting Combrig from NNT, who are very good, shipping is not too bad.Vlad wrote:While we are saddened by the loss of WEM, I'm afraid I must ask a practical question. For those of you who live in the UK, who would be your go-to supplier when you want to buy resin kits, photo-etch, accessories etc. that in the past you would have bought from WEM?

It concerns me that if the PE & kit side of WEM is transferred to the USA, then prices will become wholly uncompetitive for UK buyers due to import duty/VAT/crazy US shipping costs etc, and that since WEM have principally focused upon RN subjects, that these will not sell well in the USA and will eventually disappear.
Does anyone actually know if Tom's Modelworks are going to relocate everything to the USA? Or are they leaving the former WEM side to carry on here in the UK?

We can only hope their resin product range is continued.
I was extremely disappointed when the "Benjamin Stoddert" Charles F Adams DDG in 1/350 was discontinued by WEM due to the caster company losing the design. That kit was full hull unlike L'Arsenal one. The reason I was disappointed because it can make any DDG in the class with a few modifications and WEM had the PE set to make the Australian DDG's. I realised too late I could have made some money making and selling completed kits to ex-veterans of the class when I realised there was a huge demand for the models on facebook.

It really is a pity. I'm still very behind on some etch, though there are other companies making things now and certainly Eduard have some of the ships stuff I need. I'm just glad I got all the WEM stuff for my Trumpy 350th Hood, I moaned at the cost of all the stuff I got in one go but I'm really pleased now!
A big regret is not waiting to see if anyone did the Bismarck etch for the Revell 350th one. I got the one designed for the Tamiya kit as I wanted to build her straight away, though that was 5 or 6 years ago or something like that! Nearly complete at last. Why so long? Other kits get in the way!!!
I know Toms Modelworks are very good but I dread having to order from America as we get stung for postage and import duties. I never use enamels just cellulose and acrylic so there was never a paint issue with me it was just that WEM were handy if you decided you needed extra bits or something needed replacing.
Yet another sad loss to modelling!

Its very sad about WEM and "if" they go to the USA ,which already mention above, will become too pricey, but check out Atlantis Models run by Peter Hall, not all will be lost.

Just a quick note: We are trying hard to keep the total costs for our European customers, including shipping from the US, for WEM photo-etch products to competitive levels. Resin products will be tricky but again, I'm working on it. I ask for your patience while I get this sorted out.

Re: WEM Closing Operations as of 11/28/14
Fingers crossed it all works out OK, but postage isn't really an issue as such. It'll be total cost.
The big problem is what gets added on by HM Revenue and Customs when the package gets to this side of the pond, as well as the dreaded "handling charge" from Royal Mail. From observation, anything from the US is scrutinised very closely.
Another thing that won't help is that UK wages are currently stagnant relative to a rising cost of living, disposable incomes have declined as a result. Many British modellers are extremely price conscious at the moment.
Mike.

Perhaps if Tom's Modelworks attend Telford again this November, we in the UK can purchase our desired kits then.
I was rather surprised by their attendance last November, so was unprepared, otherwise may have planned to purchase various items.

Hello,
I am in contact with Richard Harden and the guys that bought the Colourcoats. Both told me that I will get delivered by them.
But I can't tell you, how and at which price. This is not in my hands.
Kind regards,
Ralf Schuster

Hi folks,
I had a different user account on here for a while, (albeit I mostly read rather than posted) but thought it time to create a new account in the business name.
I'm James, and I bought Colourcoats from White Ensign Models' liquidators. I just wrote out a long post explaining myself but it has vanished, rather annoyingly!

The first three posts of a new account need to be approved by moderators before showing up in order to prevent spambots. You should be able to see it now.SovereignHobbies wrote:I just wrote out a long post explaining myself but it has vanished, rather annoyingly!

Re: WEM Closing Operations as of 11/28/14
The WEM PE and resin inventory arrived here yesterday. It was delayed in customs three weeks and so I am behind on my original date to have these items available again. Everything has to be sorted and counted, of course and put somewhere where it can be found again! This will take some time so I must ask for your patience for a bit longer. I will try to have the PE available in about a month.

Great news Richard.
It has been a painful experience and a shock to learn how much effort is required to do the things you describe.
I look forward to their availability again for my own personal use

Re: WEM Closing Operations as of 11/28/14
Just an update for those interested...
Re-packaging is nearly done. The WEM website is being updated and should soon be functional again. I am hoping it will be no more than two weeks before you will once again be able to order WEM Photo-etch. There will likely be some shortages initially but hopefully not too many. My goal, as with Tom's Modelworks, is to always have all sets in stock.
