yes....

OK. But I think now it is the right time to say us the true Marijn. It is not 1-700. Right?
Do not worry - I'm not angry even you say it's 1-200.

Ok, I think it's time for you and Greg to tackle 1/1250 subjects. 1/700 has become too easy for you. Kostas needs some company.

I have to ask about the swimmers: did you just cut them off and attach them, or did you drill into the seascape?

I must say his latest diorama, and also his super carriers before, are very very inspiring indeed! Who knows :)
Devin wrote:I have to ask about the swimmers: did you just cut them off and attach them, or did you drill into the seascape?
I thickened their upper parts with superglue and baking powder, cut them off, superglued them on top of the sea surface, filled any gap with white glue, and only then painted them. So no drilling. But maybe that would be a better way, as it would allow more control over the exact height of their shoulders. It would require more work retouching the seascape, but that's only a small trade-off.
Lester Abbey wrote:Where are the sharks?
Thanks! Nice idea, but it would give a different feeling to the story (the successful evacuation would feel more negative than I intend it to). Besides:
Mgunns wrote:I just finished reading a book by Stanley Johnston who was a Chicago reporter on the Lexington when it was sunk. He mentions the lack of sharks, even though they were in known shark infested waters; he contributed the lack of sharks to the ongoing explosions in the ship that sent out shock waves, and feels that the shock waves were instrumental in keeping the sharks away. He observed the whole evacuation of the ship, the rescue efforts and noted not one fin was ever spotted.

Oh, wow.

Never has so much drama been told on such a tiny stage.

Thanks Chris!

As I'm really foremost a diorama-builder, that is exactly what I aim for with my hobby indeed: telling compelling stories. Glad it seems to be working! :)

Meanwhile, Morris has finally been fixed to the seascape, seams filled with white glue, and seascape retouched. I added more life-rafts, boats (they are putting another whaleboat in the water, be it a little clumsily :) ), together with more crew.

My eye just fell on the small hose reels next to the funnel below the 20mm guns. For the shadows for these small parts, do you use a wash or are these also lined in? I started with my own hose reels and these curves are tricky.

I can't find any adjectives that would describe the awesomeness of this diorama...

Am I the only one who is going to be heartbroken when this build is done and this thread goes quiet?

This is amazing work, thank you for sharing the build with us.

The hoses themselves are so fine, and with them wound on the reels it is a bit like a texture, so I used a wash. The detail on the outside of the reels are lined in however. But you can employ each technique for whatever you like it best of course, there are no rules!

It is my pleasure!
I will miss working on this model too (because indeed it will finish soon). But don't worry, it won't be the last model I make!
Many thanks!
