Another - The two support columns for the upper main searchlights extended out more and there was a passageway (no doors) cut into them to allow access along that part of the deck. All of these items are included in the Tamiya retool and in the Super Illustrated book. That's about it for ones I noticed.

All these points are well taken. What reference is everyone using to point out so many inaccuracies in the model I mentioned? Are any other books besides Model Art #735 Super Illustration and Skulski's book that depict a accurate portrait? If anyone has them, please share.

When I was in Japan a few years back there were several large, hard-back books with lots of technical info about Yamato that I have never seen anywhere else. Japanese language of course. I'm sure there must be others if you want to take the time to track them down. IMHO, I think the Super Illustrated book is the most comprehensive source available in English. Unless Skulski came out with an update, its fairly dated now in some areas.

I've been on the hunt for Yamato books for sometime now. I have 14 Yamato 3D CG books and another 10 misc. books with Yamato reference. I agree that the Super Illustration book is the best and use it the most. I am still under the impression that the Yamato Museum is the best place for the most accurate information, but I could be wrong.

You would think by now that someone would release a book with complete accuracy using the data known to date. Since most of the books are in Japanese, exact interpretation is never achieved. If you noticed the technical publications are written in ancient handwriting, so trying to understand them are near impossible. I gave one to my Japanese friend and she couldn't understand most of the writings and when she did they didn't make sense without taking a guess at what it meant. Even her Architect Father couldn't read it.

Some of you guys that have all this knowledge should pool your resources and take a shot at an accurate publication with lots of drawings. If you did it in 3D CG Digital Publication, you could sell them at a fair price and loose the publication cost.

After reading for sometime now on this forum the main issue is still the same. Accuracy and how to prove it.

All the news about the Musashi wreck discovery apparently stirred the waters back in Japan. The following was posted by a Japanese contributor (tounnkai) to the J-ships board about a photo that appeared in a Japanese newspaper on Tuesday:

"From today,s newspaper; BB Mushashi (probably)?on fire

This picture belongs to family of BB Musashi,s gun operator, Tameshige Nagahashi (Daisa).
His son say, his father said that this picture is BB Musashi, and during test fire,many animals were placed on deck, and many died after testfire,s blast.
Original size of picture is 10.5cm of 7.5cm."

HOLY MACKEREL! 70 Years it took, but a closeup photo of one of the sisters firing her guns finally showed up!

Great photos of the exhibition, baseballbrat, but any luck finding a higher resolution photo of Musashi firing her guns?

Is there a website for that newspaper that might have a larger photo?

try this. you'll notice that Musashi does not have the radio antenna tower on the stern. Probably this was only in place when the ship was being used as a command center for the fleet. The vibrations from the 18 inch guns would probably have damaged it during live fire exercises.

The consensus on J-ships is that this view is from aft, starboard, and it may be only B turret that is firing. If you look closely, one can see three tiny white blobs in a horizontal row where the aft 15.5cm turret would be - probably the blast bags.

I wonder, given how the height of the crane tower would interfere with a salvo aft from C turret, I can't help but wonder if the upper portion was somehow collapsible. I've never read or seen a discussion about this, only photos where the tower appears to be removed. Yet, the interference factor would have been obvious from the start...........FWIW..

Even if it folded down over the hangar well, it would be highly prone to blast damage. More than likely it was detached and dropped onto a barge during live ammo exercises.
