I've had my 1/700 WeeVee '45 and HMS Valiant for almost 2 weeks now. Got them at my local hobby shop. (yes... they do get them first sometimes!)

Hugh - I had to smile at that question! Way back in the 1980's I built a "Kitty Hawk" - couldn't remember the manufacturer or the scale, but it's decals were CV-63.

Fast forward to 2014, when a 20 year-old guy who got interested in my models and wanted to build one himself, went to the US and bought an Academy 1/800 Kitty Hawk. To cut a long story short, when I saw his model....Huh??? It did NOT look like mine....though clearly the same scale.

A quick online investigation and THEN I discovered that my old model - boxed as Kitty Hawk - was actually JFK!! I pulled it out of the cupboard and did a bit of a renovation, used some aircraft my young friend donated from his real Kitty Hawk kit (there were enough to spare!) and re-christened it CV-67!

So...the two are significantly different - JFK being, externally, more akin to the later Nimitz class.

And just now, I've figured it out - my kit is by Monogram - so anyone with an old Monogram "Kitty Hawk" - it's not Kitty Hawk!

That was informative and instructive. Another thread has been opened up on this ship, to which I've posted an observation.:

There are differences in design and build for both the ships, so we can't expect the same hulls to be used as JFK is 6 meters longer than Kitty Hawk, that's just for starters!

Trumpeter to release 1/350 Ark Royal, I suppose expected given they've announced 1/350 swordfish earlier with no other utility than to supply a WW2 RN carrier, and none more obvious than the Ark Royal. Hopefully a drastic improvement over the botched 1/700 attempt by Aoshima and shrink to 1/700 already!

I did not see any mention of the following yet:

1. Aoshima IJN Ryujo (1942) in competition with Fujimi (release for August 2015 I think)
2. Aoshima USS Balao class, in competition with Tamiya IIRC
3. Fujimi IJN Hyuga as battleship-carrier hybrid - ETA 15th June 2015
4. Fujimi IJN Nagato as at Leyte Gulf 1944 - ETA 19th June 2015
5. Fujimi IJN Agano, Yahagi, Noshiro, Sakawa 4-cruiser set---finally the missing Sakawa!
