Copying PE

Hi folks,
I was lucky to get Mahan-class and Benham-class for my Coral Sea/Guadalcanal lineups from Midship, but only one MPK801 fret so far. With Midship out of business it doesn't seem to me like there are chances to get a second one (and on the Internet it is sold out pretty much everywhere). So, the question is: is there a way to get a copy? I guess there are companies out there how can make PEs, but they work with vector formats, and I am afraid if I scan the fret, even with a good resolution, the quality would be insufficient...
Any ideas?

Apart from copyright issues - even though a company may have ceased trading, it doesn't mean their assets are free to everyone, there are automated techniques (programs) to turn bit-images into vector graphics. You may need to manually edit the results.

You can also import scans into a 2D CAD program (I use EayzDraw on the Mac) and then re-draw in another layer over it.

However, you may do this for your own purposes, but not for sharing and selling or selling the finished product.

To be frank, the quality of the old Midship fret doesn't appear that fine - there are better generic railings, ladders, depth charge, and radar sets that'll cover most of what's on the dedicated fret and look nicer.

Probably I'll go that way if there is no way of obtaining it. There are few things though, which are harder to get - like mast details for USN.

Could you suggest a few of these?

I just took my first plunge into doing PE (and apparently I have a knack for it - and it is more durable than is the plastic), and I scored a pile of Midship destroyers (and a Cruiser, but it comes with a PE fret).

But all of the generic stuff I have found is mostly Japanese, or for Cruisers and BBs.

So... Appreciations for suggestions for generic frets, please....
