Calling all USS Indiana class (BB-1) fans

have been doing a little research on Americas first "home brewed" capital ships BB-1 thru BB-3. My dilemna, a bit of trouble distinguishing Indiana from Massachusetts. Oregon seems easy to spot from cranes, bow ornament and anchors, whilst photographs of Indiana and Massachusetts seem to be in conflict. Both photos below are labeled "Massachusetts"

Does anyone know, or know of an accurate source to determine?

I wish I had an answer for you. I too am looking for some reference of early US battleships.

No kits for the Indiana class either.

Thank you Darius, the close up of Indiana has a clear view of No. 1 turret which is without the "victory" figurehead unique to Massachusetts.

I have the GMM set which has the bow shield for Oregon. I'm debating on how best to recreate the bb1 crest.

The color of Indiana is still a mystery to me. At the battle of Santiago Bay a drawing of the battle indicates the ship was all white with the exception of the stacks in buff. Sometime later she was changed to all grey. There is also a picture in Navsource that has her just before the battle in white. Time frame is a bit ambiguous from what I have found in photographs. Maybe someone here can shed more light on when and at what time did they make the switch to all grey.

Some of the more interesting areas include the stacks and deck covering. On Oregon it was way more substantial, whereas the Indiana was almost completely open.

What makes one of these Massachusetts, and the other Indiana?

Both look identical, save for the painted ornamentation of Athena or Liberty in the Cameo.

Just curious.

I know that there is a kit of Oregon etc in resin in 1/700 as full hull. Does anyone have FULL HULL plans for Indiana class to make it possible for me to scratch build the lower hull?

Pascalemod: I ordered the YS Masterpieces 1/700 USS Oregon. It has a full hull. Hope to get it soon. Ordered From Greece.

Blue Ridge Models also makes a 1/700 waterline kit. Just snatched one off Ebay. I think it is OOP now.
