Does somebody already bought Very Special Ships Abdiel Class Fast Minelayers of World War Two by Arthur Nicholson?
Is it good?

Got the book today.
Looks most like a history of the six ships rather than a technical analysis.
Photos are mostly small but colour drawings of the ships. I never realised that Latona was Mountbatten Pink!

Re: Very Special Ships Abdiel Class Fast Minelayers
Thanks for the reminder that I needed to order this book. Should have it in a few days.
The Warships in Profile of course did a nice technical history to some degree. So did WARSHIP do an article on them years ago.
I hope to troll the IWM for some good photos of these ships. But last time I was there, I did't hit gold! Somewhere there must be some nice ones to add to the Calling all ship fans page.

I HAVE BEEN WAITING YEARS FOR THIS BOOK AND IT CERTAINLY DOES NOT DISSAPOINT I SERVED ON HMS MANXMAN BETWEEN DECEMBER 1965 AND JANUARY 1968 AS DID MY TWO OPPO,S OWEN COOPER AND STAN MACLELLAN WHO ALSO HAVE COPIES OF THE BOOK WE WERE ALL YOUNG STOKER PO.s AND ALL AGREE IT WAS A HAPPY SHIP TO SERVE ONmaxim wrote:Does somebody already bought Very Special Ships Abdiel Class Fast Minelayers of World War Two by Arthur Nicholson?

OUR THANKS MUST GO TO THE AUTHOR FOR VERY COMPREHENSIVE HISTORY OF EACH SHIP IN THIS CLASS, OVER THE YEARS THE MANXMAN IN PARTICULAR WENT THROUGH MANY CHANGES NOT LEAST HAVING TWO BOILERS REMOVED AND THE SPACE CONVERTED TO AN AUXILLARY MACHINERY SPACE TO ALLOW US TO SUPPLY THE MINESWEEPERS POWER AND WATER WHEN REQUIRED. THIS CLASS OF SHIP WAS VERY SPECIAL INDEED AND AT LAST THERE WORK AND CREWS WILL GET THE RECOGNITION THEY ALL DESERVE
