thin styrene glue substitute

hello all,

just wondering if there is any cheaper substitute available for the water thin glue made by Tamiya, plastruct and such. I read that mek works but it's not sold in California. it's just that the hobby stuff is expensive and evaporates quickly if the container is not tightly closed.

Can you find the Testors purple label glass jar stuff? Mine's been opened for a few years and no signs of evaporation.
