Sad end for Historic warships

I still remember, from long ago, the feeling of having something I loved dearly snatched from my arms by uncaring, indifferent hands.

Hi all, further to my last posting on this subject.
I was not venting at the site staff or duty managers, Andy or Colin.
What I was trying to get accross was my disgust and bitternes at the speed of wich the builders/developers moved in.
It was a case of Vultures at dusk, or in this case dawn, this really upset me.
The main problem I had was total disbeleif that it was still happening after all my and our efforts.

The staff at the site did and I hope will do a sterling job in the future if the attraction re opens elsewhere. I enjoyed my time working down there very much and made alot of very nice freinds.

I am sorry if my last post sounded a bit hard hitting, but, I was very uptight about things as I am sure alot of people will understand.

I just wish we could have won the Euro lottery and all the problems would be solved.

Any news as to what will happen to the U Boat?

It seems that the U Boat was the principle money-maker for the Trust, and it would be a shame to see it return to Denmark, especially in view of the fact that HMS Whimbrel is assured a place in Canning Dock upon her pending return from Egypt. It would be good to see both displayed next to each other.

It would give the whole thing some meaning to the Public.

The U-boat, does not belong to the trust. It is on loan and is owned by a Danish guy, so I suppose it is up to him, what happens to it.
If a place at Canning Dock could be secured, it would be far less costly, than having it towed back to Denmark on board a Lighter.
I agree with you, that it would be nice to see it with the Whimbleberry.
It would be nice if all these ships could be displayed there too, but Whimbleberry and the U-boat were part of the WW2 scene and is for the Atlantic Memorial, that the whibleberry will be representing.
They could also have a Falklands Memorial too, by displaying Plymouth & Onyx.

Hi Geoff, it is HMS Whimbrel you mean, not Whimbleberry mate!
It is a fact that the U boat U534 is owned by a Danish company and is a big part of the attraction, also this thing about Canning dock is currently being banded about, but, there is nothing definate with regards to anything happening with anything yet as far as I know.

As soon as I know anything I will let everyone know, but, I think I got a bit too emotional on Tuesday morning when I saw the builders plant comming through the gates and lost it a bit, I do have a temper, but, can calm it if I don't get miss understood or wound up the wrong way.

I really do hope that something can be done and quickly to save the lot.
Canning dock would be absoloutly awesome, so there would be memorials of two conflicts. That set up would be superb.

Also I would like to add that the existing attraction would be nothing if it were not for the staff and volunteers, some of wich have been there for 14 years.

I wish everyone well.

Hi all, tha latest news is that big meetings have been going on for the last two weeks and there is another even bigger one tomorrow, Friday 17/2/06.

As soon as I have any info, I will post it here.

Its still all up in the air and we can't say wether it looks good or bad at the moment.

Hi all. well! There does seem to be something afoot, all I can say right now is that liquidation has been delayed for another week and there are more meetings going on. I will let every one know any outcome as soon as I know.

Hi all, the latest news from the museum is that "THE MAIN" meeting is on Friday this week and this will decide the outcome of it all. There has been meeting after meeting and nobody knows other than the board what's happening, so lets hope they decide to save the ships.

Hi all, latest news is, the "warship preservation trust" went into liquidation at 15:00 this afternoon and no longer exists, there are other rescue attempts on going, but, nothing solid yet. The ships will be moved by the dock board by the end of next week, so GOD help them, the ships I mean.

I will still fight the corner, but, at the moment this is very bleak news indeed. What is wrong with these people?????

I hope they are moved to a safe location, otherwise, it won't be long before the vandals get to them. Sad, but in todays society, a true possibility.

Very bad news indeed,I've been there twice and enjoyed the time spent having a good look around.
Just one thing though,what's going to happen to the U boat !
perhaps we can send E-mails to Wirral Borough Council expressing our concern.It would be sad to loose this important historical site.

Latest news, since the trust was liquidated.
The ships are now being held by the "dock board" PEEL HOLDINGS, in other words as the berthing fees havn't been paid due to the situation that was caused, in my opinion, by them in the first place amongst other things. The ships are due to be moved and in my opinion not very carefully by the "dockboard" anytime very soon, as no body is letting the "ex staff" know what is going on now after Friday, yesterday, just gone, I can't tell you an awefull lot.

The whole situation just "sucks" In, my opinion!

Gotta say that for legal reasons, sorry guys!

We still hope for the best, but, it looks VERY BLEAK!

unfortunatly this is true... my father served on hms reso and repulse

always said he had to be on best behavour when hms bronington was in port.. (pow)

so being a fan of historic warships my father sent a letter to hm pow to see if would get of behind and do something about it... we racieved a letter saying there might be something done to save them

Last Week on the 19th April, HMS Plymouth and HMS Onyx were moved to Vittoria Dock Birkenhead. This the safest place for them at at present.

I also understand that the "contents" of HMS Plymouth have been bought by and unknown businessman.
