Deck Staining

Guys,
Need some advice here please. I have a wood deck that is chocolate brown in color.
It has laser engraving for the planks and parts placement.
How would I stain it to represent the IJN faded grey on their battleships.

I really appreciate the help!

Is the faded grey actually weathered teak in actuality?

Chocolate brown is way too dark in any case. Have you considered bleaching it?

Well, it's not because it is wood that it has to be stained.
Chocolate brown has quite a to of red content, while faded grey is more bluish or at best neutral. Also, you are trying to get a darker color to turn lighter. Both of these aspects are problematic when staining.
I think your best option is to simply paint the deck with a fully covering coat of paint just like you would if it were plastic.

But what marijn van gils said is also true. It may be your best bet to paint over it as bleaching it may give unexpected results. I would find some scrap wood that is similarly colored to practice on in any event.

It looks great--like virgin wood fresh from the lumberyard.

Indeed, that is much lighter and less reddish than chocolate brown. Staining shouldn't be too much of a problem.
There are plenty of commercially available wood stains. But since I don't know their colors, I would mix the color I need from enamel paints, heavily dilute with white spirit, and use that as a stain.
