Dang good idea to look the last place, mmm didn't think of that! Hank, canopy ribs painted with a sharpened toothpick (1/16" dowl actually) with a very small bit of paint. Will tend to stay on top of the ribs.
There are actually two planes. I lost one of the depth charges to tweaser snap, the its handmade replacement, but finally got it on the plane try three or four.
Cheers. Tom

Thanks, Tom - when I get to them, I may leave the cockpit of one of the SOC's open, close the other, and the third plane? One, of course, will need to be painted as the admiral's plane (blue overall?).

Found the decals... Last place I looked. Was actually desperate enough to take everything out of the waste basket by the modeling area.... And there they were, near the bottom!

Yikes. What I have learned is that old, built kits can be disassembled, cleaned and rebuilt again or even sold as-is on that certain auction site. You should see the bidding wars for built model collections... Don't ever do that again.cchataway wrote:...I had built the 350 scale Enterprise carrier, New Jersey, Missouri and Titanic, the Titanic is the only ship I had a plexiglass display case made for and DUST ruined the other three to where they had to be put in the trash.

Tom,
The Seahawks add just enough blue to make the overall appearance of the model really stand out!!! Your details certainly add so much to the model - well done!

Beautiful Work Tom!!! Great looking ship. I'm intrigued by the idea of using magnets to attach the crane. I'm doing that on the 16" turrets and the 5" turrets of my Missouri, but I never thought about the crane. I might have to look into that.

One of the beauties of model ships is that you can always add something, even more so for large scale. They are never really "done". And for the modeler that finds joy in the build, the model is the gift that keeps on giving.
If Jeff chooses to keep his big AZ, ten years from now he could be adding shoelaces to the crew's shoes.
Large scale rocks.

Fliger,
I've been busy between work and dealing with life issues pertaining to elderly parents. I relish the moment when I can get at the bench again!

Re: 1/200 Scale Group Build from 2015-16
I think a lot of us are in the elderly parents phase of life. Mine are 90 and 91 respectively and the years do take their toll, though they are still living unassisted. Life always takes precedence! Spring and Summer usually take their time for other activities from outdoor activities, traveling family get togethers and who knows what (mowing the lawn?). So projects tend to sit on the shelves collecting dust as the days warm and lengthen.
Skiing, chasing women, photography, flying, warm weather, running, all great distractions!
Best to all, stay out, be healthy, it does keep the skills and enthusiasm for all things, including your ship projects!

Re: 1/200 Scale Group Build from 2015-16
Some of you have already seen my thread, but I have jumped into the world of 1/200 ships with my Arizona and I'm starting to make consistent progress. Right now I'm just working on the smaller stuff, I'm hesitant to start anything big on her as I'm purchasing my first house and will be moving at the end of July. Once all the purchase chaos has subsided I'll be able to start with the major parts of the build. Here's a link to my thread, when I get big updates I'll try to remember to post pictures here as well.

And the 1/200 fun doesn't end with Arizona! My HMS Hood will be here this week for me to drool over, and I'm supposed to get a Bismarck from a forum member sometime in the near future as well. Looks like I have my projects for the next couple of years planned out, especially once I get a big enough desire to get a Missouri and Nelson kit as well lol.

Alaska, the second 25 years:
The Bloomers are built of modeling clay and surfaced with CA. Barrels are aluminum tube with some putty added for tapered joints and turned in a drill. (before lathe days...)
Two 26' motor whaleboats which fit midships just aft of the aircraft cranes. Carved from basswood, styrene decks and details. Covered Captain's Gig with brass hoops and tissue covering.
