This Yubari 1-700 plan scan is from the MASMS vol. #50, which highlights the Battle of Savo Island. It looks correct to me in terms of her AA layout, and the staggered shape of her aft AA platform.

Re: Calling all IJN Light Cruiser fans
Found these pics of Oyodo's wreck. It conclusively proves she had a camouflage scheme when sunk (see the AA gun sponson). Just wish there was a drawing showing said scheme...anyone have any ideas?

I know you've seen this image before, but this crop is from a larger version.

Re: Calling all IJN Light Cruiser fans
Hi all, Ive just got a grip on a second-hand BigBlueBoy PE set no. 70030 for Tamiya Yubari, but unfortunately the instruction sheet is missing. Would anyone of its happier owners be willing to share a scanned copy with me (via p.m.), please? Thanks!

Horner, that would be great, but I did not get it yet, neither a reply to my private message.

Re: Calling all IJN Light Cruiser fans
Is there any chance we can see the top of the main turrets of IJN Oyodo late 1944/1945? Or during her scrapping in 1948. That would be interesting to see if she still has the training aiming devices on top of the turret roofs.

This is the best that I could come up with, both from Nihon no Gunkan vol.9.

Well, Dominic, that'll teach you to forego this site at your peril.I have forgotten my password for like forever
As to your question, I would go with the linoleum. There's no photographic evidence for Oyodo, but that was the general practice.

Re: Calling all IJN Light Cruiser fans
I thought I had posted this earlier today, but I believe I hit new topic instead of reply. Anyway, in trying to find some reference material for a Aoshima Katori that I'm honing my 1/700 "skills" on, I found this up-grade set from Five Star on their website. http://www.fstarmodel.com/en/pd.jsp?id=272&_jcp=2
I'm not about to spend 4 times what I paid for the model itself (which is pretty crude in terms of detail ) But, I thought I could use these pics as a bit of an idea what extra things I could add to spruce it up. If you click on Finished Models, there is a selection of models built with their sets, and perhaps be an inspiration to some on this forum. Here's hoping that this is useful information for IJN fans

It's good idea. Similar views can be had with other such sets from both Five Star, Flyhawk, and Rainbow.

Do you have one of the old Aoshima kits or one of the new ones of the Katori class?dadedicos wrote:I'm not about to spend 4 times what I paid for the model itself (which is pretty crude in terms of detail )
Here are photos of the new kit:

No, I have the older version The newer version looks very nice, but I can use this older one as a test bed for improving my detailing and modification skills. My eyesight and dexterity have diminished in the 30+ years since my last foray into 1/700 ships. Thanks for your interest!! Doug

Re: Calling all IJN Light Cruiser fans
For the old kit I would really not use a Five Star set.
Perhaps there is something from GMM or Tom's Model Works?

Re: Calling all IJN Kuma (??) and Nagara (??) class CL fans
I need some help, does anyone know what this is? (IJN Tenryu)

From various pictures i found, the best i can make out is a small platform, then some kind of weird piping that goes up...
There are a few more clearer pictures ones from wikipedia:

I've gone through all my references and I cannot say what these are for But, I do note that these "platforms" were removed during her later refits. They are not present for her wartime appearance.
The piping may be voice tubes.
