What are the rules and how do you create an avatar. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I apologize for being a real goober, but what do you refer to as the stickied thread?

See the attached screenshot - the symbol circled in red denotes a "stickied" thread, which is one that will always remain at the top of the board.
