I Have the Pontos Set for the USS Wisconsin BB-64. I know the set was design to upgrade the Tamiya NJ Kit. Could this set be used on the New 1991 Version of Missouri to change her to the Wisconsin?

If your pontos kit is for the Wisconsin then it could certainly be used to make Wisconsin out of the Tamiya new tool modern Missouri kit. Pontos supplies the entire decks as seen in my model above so you will have no problem converting at all. Pontos also has resin parts to replace the plastic parts that are not needed at all.

I did bring my Alaska down to Summer Flying camp to work on it some more. At home it and Missouri sat next to each other on the drafting table which passes for a shipyard. Iowa's aren't usually thought of as portly (as in does this tug boat make my stern look big) but alongside Alaska, also in 1:192, it looks positively portly! Both impressive looking ships, well proportioned, amongst the very fastest of large warships of the era. Alaska only looks really cruiser like when parked next to Iowa's.

Not sure if this has been answered, but were tanks on the main deck acetylene and oxygen and if so were they red and green? Also were life rings orange or grey?. It's hard to tell with black and white pictures. That's about all the questions for now.

Regarding various gas cylinders on deck:

This topic has been posted on the forum a year or more ago. Google gas cylinders, etc. - there are a various set of tanks that were carried aboard ship - 02, N2, Acetylene, H2, He, CO2; each having it's own distinctive paint scheme. The online charts are all over the place.

Thanks Hank! I did a search here on compressed gas and found the color chart in question you mentioned. Would have never guessed acetylene cylinders were black with a blue top and a red stripe below. Go figure.

Ok, I have researched here and on the web as best as I can. I did find one picture http://navsource.org/archives/01/061/016130a.jpg and if you look below it appears there are silver/grey tanks which would be CO2 and others that appear to be a solid color. Can't tell if it's green or red. I have read acetylene would be stored elsewhere and also they are normally a shorter tank. Not sure if helium was used for weather gallons during the war. I'm not sure what other gases were carried and wonder if it's necessary to try and depict the various tank colors. In the grand scheme of things the amount of color besides black would be minimal and not sure anyone would know what it meant.

Did the Missouri carry one or two accommodation ladders in 1945. The FDD plans shows one being stowed at the after end of the superstructure and parts for another stowed at the forward end with the possible position for a second ladder. I have pictures that show no ladder at the after end. Anybody have any knowledge of the actual storage arrangement?

This would be between mid August 1943 and Mid September 1943 owing to the original open bridge ( enclosed to the round bridge 11 October 1943) and the 20mm shield/tub on the bow (added mid august 43). This photo was taken during her post commissioning shakedown cruise which would last until late September when she put into the yard in early October to get her bridge enclosed prior to being deployed.

John Haynes' 1/96 model has the cylinders all painted in medium bright green..... Would they have all been the same?

According to several pictures I've found on Navsource and Stillwell's book on page 44 the cylinders were painted two colors. Grey and either a red, green or black as its hard to tell in a black and white picture. The chart that was posted showed Co2 as grey. The chart also showed other gases were in a black cylinder with various stripes or colors on top. The pictures I have seen do not depict any colors above the black, but an area with a possible label. While I'm not going to say this is one hundred percent accurate, based on findings thus far I am going with grey and black. The chart does not give shades so on my Iowa I'm building I went with a mix of a light grey and flat black. I also grouped them in sets of 6 or 7 of each color as depicted in said pictures.
