Weathering on black german torpedo WWI

Im currently building the A86 torpedoboot from Mirage Hobby on 1/350 and wanted to know if there is possibility to add some weathering on the "black" coat... For the moment, i used Vallejo primer and Revell mat black.

Firstly, IMHO, I think a base coat of black is too dark. Paint first with dark gray, spray with Future, then add a black oil wash. When dry, use a dry brush to remove excess oil pigment. Brush away pigment until you arrive at the effect you like, but leave pigment in corners, crevises, and scribed lines. Seal the paint with clear flat then drybrush lightly with lighter gray for highlighting. After a couple of tries you will have a weathered look with detail that pops. This technique is for the entire ship.

Hello Biggles, thanks for your reply ... Last question, can i repaint all of the process on the current bad black i did ?

I think it's possible. Mask off the lower hull and airbrush. If you miss some corners, that's OK as they will be in shadow anyway.

Although lamp-black (soot) was used as the pigment in the black oil-paint of the day, this paint would have weathered quite quickly to become matt and then it would have looked more like anthracite grey. So, starting from a dark grey, as suggested above, would be the right strategy.

On the other hand, instead of repainting, you could use lighter colors to weather her and make the black look streaked and dirty.
