Calling all Arleigh Burke-class (DDG-51) fans

Good Morning,

I haven't been able to find 1/350 decals for the Arleigh burke class on the aftermarket. I'm specifically looking for the USS Paul Hamilton. Does anyone know of a sheet out there? Without having to buy The Sullivans?

I have a question about the Nixie Ports on an Arleigh Burke Class Destroyer. I am wanting to model the USS Stout as she was at her commissioning. All of the photos of her stern, that I can find, show her with round Nixie Ports. But, these photos are all much more recent than of her in 1994 when she was commissioned. Was she commissioned with rectangular Nixie Ports and then converted to the round ones at a later date? I know this to be the case with DDG-51 USS Arleigh Burke. I can find plenty of photos of DDG-51 with rectangular ports when she was commissioned and then round ports later. But, I can't find any photos of DDG-55 USS Stout with the rectangular ports. Common sense tell me that she had the rectangular ports first, just like DDG-51. Anybody know for sure? Any photos of Stout with the rectangular ports? Thank you in advance.

most likely she was built with the round holes as USS Curtis Wilbur DDG-54 at the Bath Iron Works Portland, ME Drydock, August 6, 1993 has the round ones. http://www.navsource.org/archives/05/05015419.jpg

Hello all, new here and have the Trumpeter 1/350 to build and want to build DDG-60 Paul Hamilton and need to find decals and also recommendations on what etch kit to get too. Lions Roar looks comprehensive. Any help welcomed as I am new to this forum.

Does anyone here have a good image of what the Flt III design will look like. I have seen and image that shows a Flt IIA with additional enclosure above the bridge with three Phased Array panels on it. Any help would be great.

As I understand it, that's an early rendition and has been cancelled for the initial Flight III ships due to weight and cooling limitations. Instead, the X-band function will be carried out by an improved rotating SPQ-9B on the mast, while the S-Band AMDR (SPY-6) panels on the deckhouse remain outwardly similar to the existing SPY-1: http://i0.wp.com/news.usni.org/wp-conte ... 24x619.jpg

A new X-band radar may indeed be implemented on future sub-variants (Flight IIIA, perhaps?) that'll be similar to the early renderings with the additional enclosure - at least, they say they're working on such an arrangement:

The X-band portion of AMDR will be comprised of an upgraded version of an existing
rotating radar (SPQ-9B), instead of the new design initially planned. The new radar will
instead be developed as a separate program at a later date and integrated with the
thirteenth AMDR unit. According to the Navy, the upgraded SPQ-9B radar fits better
within the Flight III�s sea frame and expected power and cooling availability. Program
officials state that the SPQ-9B radar will have capabilities equal to the new design for
current anti-air warfare threats, it will not perform as well against future threats

DDG 84 was the test ship for the new rudder and still retains those rudders. A photo was published in War Ship Pictorals showing DDG 84 with these rudders.

So now my question is the Flt III Burke the same size as the Flt IIA?

...and i'm here to rant about the bulbous prow/sonar dome attachment to the hull

it had me to look at it multiple times to see if its aligned... hehehehe...

With USS Nitze on the news recently, I was wondering about the bay (hanger?) for the WLD-1(V)1? In a few photos it appears that the door has been removed now that the remote minehunting system has been discontinued, but the pictures are not very clear. So, does anyone know if the door is still in place on DDG-94?

All of the doors for 91 thru 96 have been removed and now have a steel plate in place of the door.

Went aboard the Bainbridge and yes the exterior door is welded over with a plate but ALL of the interior equipment, label plates and everything were still inside. Not sure why, maybe waiting for it to be fixed for future use and then all they'd have to do is remove the welded patch. Just speculation. Didn't expect to see the gear still aboard though.

Picked up a 1/72 flight iia hull with some fittings. Now as there are such a multitude of ships to choose from, I'm in need of opinions. So needs to be flight iia, and id prefer one with both ciws fore and aft. Have been thinking Lassen, Bulkeley and possibly Halsley. Thoughts would be great.

My 1/72 flight iia AB has finally arrived from the east coast. Picked it up this morning and what a monster of a box it was in! Luckily have roof racks. The model itself will fit easily in my jeep. The model was started by a fellow task force 72 member with decks and running gear fitted. I picked it up at a bargain price as he has too many projects on the go. So I have a good base to start from. One issue though is the hangar deck isn't quite right. It's perfectly flat and on the real AB's there are two slight angles in the deck. So this I'll have to rectify. I've also ordered two crest 12volt motors which should easily power the twin 75mm props as I used these in my AWD and is common motor used by members of TF72 for larger models. Anyway a few pics to show what I've got to play with.

I recommend going for one of the hull no's that has been done yet in Oz (Churchill (finished),with Lassen (UC) & Mason(UC) have been done so far out of the early FltIIa's, and Pinckney(Finished), Spruance(UC) and Kidd(UC) out of the later flat funneled FltIIa's and I have started a FltI John Paul Johns and another club member is doing DDG51 itself. ***UC =underconstruction***

G'day Bruce, a small world! Yeah at the price it was going, even with shipping it was cheaper than if it was new so I jumped at it. The only problem is there's no plans! I'm a little amazed he didn't have any but I think he bought it second hand himself. Luckily Rob who built Roosevelt here in WA is finished with his set, so I can borrow his. I'm eager to see the model against the plans as I think I've mentioned there's a couple issues with how the superstructure has been built. It's very solid though might not be quite right so will have to wait till I get the plans.

The USB stick would be so appreciated Bruce! If you send me a pm we can discuss it there. I was leaning towards lassen, but with that list I think Bulkeley DDG 84 will be my choice. I want a flight iia with exposed stacks and both ciws fitted and also having the typhoon mounted bushmasters.
