And the Pontos instruction doesn't seem to even mention the screws at all

After I had sprayed a satin clear I noticed two things.

1st: The hull red was really dull. So to remedy the situation I made a filter of pure bright red and gave the hull 2 layers of it. Now it's way more pleasing.

2nd: The salt stains on the waterline had mostly disappeared. So I just added more.

Worked a bit on the bow aswell. After the usual washes etc. I used a brush to sprinkle light european dust pigment to the edges. After that some white spirit was put on top of them with a brush.
After they had dried some brown washes added to edges aswell. And last some pigments applied dry with a brush.

I also finished the number 1 turret and the barbettes.





I'm still contemplating if I should do the algae build up effect on the lower hull and how much.

Close to finishing the hull!

I made a bit more salt streaks for the lowerhull.

After that I started to build up the grunge on the bottom. I started it with a buff color. I thinned the paint for about 95% thinner and just a hint of paint.
Slowly building up the effect making sure not to spray too much or to stay still. As it created runs instantly.





Next more brown and black colors were airbrushed into the bottom. Keeping the same paint to thinner ratio.



Lastly some green was airbrushed aswell. After this I went over all the colors with pigments corresponding to the colors. A bit of a yellow tint for the buff, green for green and dark brown for the rest.

After this a big wide brush was used to go over everything blending everything together.

I still have to weather the screws, probably just throw some pigment mixture at em, would like to have some blackenit or something but need to make do what we have.

glad you like it.It was kinda nerve wrecking as that was the first time I even did it ever. On the Gearing I did it all with pigments but the hull is so much bigger it would have eaten too much pigments.
So I just pictured this all in my mind and just started airbrushing

Also

I decided I needed some damage control plan for the 2nd catapult.
Thankfully I have the old tool Yamato with WEMs etches built years ago. So I thought that would make a great sacrifice for the greater good.
So I cannibalized one of them. After that I kitbashed it with the rest of the parts that I had left from the pontos set.







Definetly better than nothing!

We're getting there!

I recieved my replacement deck and made absolutely sure to get it right!
And I did!

Now I can proceed on building all the details. I started from the stern.

I've got some railings and other stuff painted and ready to be applied soon.





















Ofcourse not everything is weathered yet so don't fret!

Couple of questions for you: you mentioned a replacement deck...seems I missed something, what was wrong with the 'old' one?
Those white squares on deck: are they handpainted or decals?
And last but not least. I intend to add the railings later on myself as well. But how does it work? Do you spray them on the fret and then cut them loose and add them in place? Don't the paint chip off when handling it?

Couple of questions for you: you mentioned a replacement deck...seems I missed something, what was wrong with the 'old' one?
Those white squares on deck: are they handpainted or decals?
And last but not least. I intend to add the railings later on myself as well. But how does it work? Do you spray them on the fret and then cut them loose and add them in place? Don't the paint chip off when handling it?

If you look back couple of pages I told the bow part had a bit of an accident when peeling it off the sheet (it's fairly visible on the pictures). The edge tore up and left a visible seam so decided it was worth it to get a new one.
The squares are the Pontos dry transfers. There are also numbers provided but not sure but maybe they were squares becouse they overpainted the markings while doing the "jet black" coating and then just repainted them as squares? There was some talk in the CASF thread. But they are clearly visible on the Ten ichi go photos being squares.

Yes I paint them on the fret, and in my past experience, the paint won't chip at all (well the cutting point will need to be repainted). You basicly need to nuke the Gunze paints to get them to chip or wear off, unlike lifecolor or vallejos where you only need to watch them to see the paint fall off
You can also prime them first but I just used Gunzes black as a primer.

That's good to know. I use Tammi paints and they are quite similar to Gunze (though they don't dry gloss or semi-gloss). I'll try that out and when it doesn't work out, I'll get the Gunze ones. It's a relief

And I must have missed the part of your damaged wooden deck. I've checked this thread regularly for inspiration and info but still managed to miss that LOL

Some more progress on the stern.

More railings and other details were added. After I had glued the pre painted railings with thin CA I brushed the contact points with light gray enamel.
After that I blended them with neutral gray filter while the enamel was still curing. That way they blended in pretty nicely.
