Boats. The yellow tape is to mimic canvas covers. I removed some of them later. The kit provides rather a few more boats than are needed for the wartime fit. I elected to install as many boats as could fit.

Matt, I can offer my counterpoint: I am always impressed with those that can paint before they assemble and have such nice results. I find that the suffering of painting a finished set of fiddly bits is better than dealing with gluing painted objects together.

You are quite correct. I have only seen them without blastbags in the yards. They appeared to be either dark or light coloured. Light for the Roma I believe, as you did.

I did not model them because I was having so much fun leaving them as moveable parts. Alas, the free movement died with the paintjob, so I might as well have done them. Too late now.

Now looking at it, it doesn't seem right.

My weathering technique in a few pictures.

I will go into this in detail on a future build but for this one, please ask away. I did not take very many photographs of this process.

Weathering German Ships from AK Interactive was one of the resources I used for inspiration. A shout out to Fran Romero's superb work.

Weathering the deck. In this case, stains from lubrication, grease, walking, and rain.


Ever wondered what to do with old contact cases? I put my premixed oils into them. I have 6 in use for 12 colors.




Salt tends to build up and light the area around the waterline. I apply it using a very light grey thinned oil. I let it dry for a time and then blend it straight down. I apply algae and other marine growth on top of the salt streaks.






The blending begins.

I skipped showing the application of exposed rust, organics, and general streaking. I also postshaded the entire bottom of the bottom with a lighter, greyer color to help with scaling and provide wear effects to the places where the sun doesn't shine.

a particular bug-bear of mine

It is a a great sadness to me that so many incredibly useful resources for modellers
are at best short-lived and at worst relegated to almost no use-sometiems even only months later
or 5 years later ... when the image host ( including the likes of 'established' firms such Image shack etc )
change policy/ funding/ server etc etc and then all images vanish in the ether for ever

Personally -for permanent web resourses like modelwarships.com I always upload the images directly from my PC

that way there is some degree of permanence for MW.com and future modelllers

and we are not reliant on a wholly commercial outside host

view the examples of havoc imposed on these threads by the outside image hosts
