Calling all RN & RCN Algerine-class minesweeper fans

Post by Mike E. »

All:

Give the release of the new 1/700 Algerine Class minesweeper by Starling Models, I thought I would start a thread about camouflage colors worn by this class.

Would anyone have an inkling of the colors worn by the Algerine class minesweepers in these two photos?

I recall going aboard an Algerine class minesweeper which was being broken up at Barrow in Furness in the late 1960s. I believe she was HMS Mutine and she was fitted with a Squid A/S launcher in place of the forward gun. Does anyone know if any of the ships fitted with Squid were ever commissioned or did they stay in the Reserve Fleet? and can anyone point me towards a picture of one?

Thanks

There are photos of several Squid-fitted Algerines at sea; I have seen LENNOX (photo on a visit to Amsterdam, February 1958), PLUTO (eg IWM Ref FL 12896), HOUND (currently on E-Bay at http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/rp01501-Royal ... 1121036089).

Apologies for being 2 years late - this is the first time I've looked in here. HMS Rifleman's scheme appears to be that included within C.B.3098(R) in May 1943.

It has even gotten better in the meantime... the scale is not only 1/700, but a 1/350 version appeared as well!

I sure must get mine soon, before they are sold out...
