The Mk29 launchers today benefit from the hardening done fitting the design to the 16" over pressure. It is seen here:
There is ventilation amidships that limited the VLS arrangement to 2x16 amidships in the original design. In my 2016 Iowa, I have rerouted the ventilation system to instead accommodate 2x32 cell VLS arrangements amidships for a total of 128 VLS tubes in the ship.
