I've been thinking the 1/200 market was due for a IJN subject. The catalog shows a 1/200 Enterprise/Yorktown, so with that the totals for nations comes to 5 US ships, 3 British, and one German (And one Chinese ship I don't count). Yamato is the obvious first choice for IJN. Should be an impressive model as long as it doesn't suffer from bad research from Trumpeter.

Even if it does, it'll probably be more accurate than the old Nichimo one.

I wouldn't hold your breath. I will be REALLY surprised if Trumpeter does their own research and not just copy/"improve" the Nichimo version. A Kongo or Nagato would've been a better marketing move in 1/200. That's why I'm cautious because of the model subject.. My question is since it seems that the Chinese don't do Japanese WW2 subjects, or at least very reluctant, why doesn't the Japanese do more of their WW2 subjects, like carriers, BB's or cruisers in 1/200? It was said that the Japanese are driven by the Japanese market, not the international, but in light of Trumpeter's overall success in their model kit subjects(allied navies mainly), it seems the Japanese model companies need a new strategy..

It might be the case that 1:200 is not going too well in japan - average living space of a japanese person is significantly less then that of a european or american with same income, or at least it looked to me like that on my business trips to Tokyo area... Same reason for low 1:200 sales in Russia (plus lower average income there)

They can just copy Tamiya's Premium Yamato, and turn it from 1/350 to 1/200, why do you think they would copy the Nichimo version.

You're not alone there. I've been waiting for one of these for some while, since I corresponded with Trumpeter a good few years ago. To give Trumpeter their due, they responded, and, even saying that they were working through to my list, but give them time! I note that the two ships not produced/scheduled for production from the capital ships list are HMS Vanguard and HMS Renown. I'm pleased to say that it appears that the USN cruiser list seems to be on the cards now, just hoping that they will pay attention to the RN cruiser list in the near future!

In the Pacific, ships of every USN class of Light and Heavy Cruisers except the Baltimores were engaged in surface actions. The Wichita was one of the last engaging the remnants of Ozawa's ships while 7 were on the battle line in Surigao Strait.

Classes not yet modeled in plastic:

Pensacola
Northampton
Wichita

Omaha
Brooklyn
St. Louis

Classes modeled:

Portland Class (Tamiya - Indianapolis)
New Orleans Class (Trumpeter - 7 kits)

Known future items:

A new company named Snowman from China has indicated they will be doing (all in 700 scale) the Cleveland and Brooklyn. Their first kit, a Gearing class Frank Knox is "scheduled" for this month.

Trumpeter has listed in their new catalog the 350 scale Baltimore and Pittsburgh both in 1944 outfit.

Dragon still lists the 350 scale Atlanta.

That's about it as far as I can see for the USN.
