All righty now! .....I'm back at the bench finally and taking any spare time I have to begin wrapping up my Arizona. Lately I've been focusing on the little details, touch-ups I wanted to get while I can without knocking something off my model before going further. That completed and not really worth photographing, I've started on the sea base. As a reminder I plan to mount my model waterline underway depicted about December 2nd just prior to the attack. The other items to date are the .50 cals which had to be stripped down, barrels changed out, as well as the 5"25's. I'm trying to get the main superstructure/tripod command top completed and rigged with the halyards and slowly work my way backwards and outwards. At a certain point I'll have to mount it in the base, so from there on I'll have to work over the sea diorama, which will be even a more challenge. My next subassembly will be the ship's boats(next post), wrapping up the funnel and mounting it, then finishing out the main top/tripod mast. I will keep everyone posted on the progress.

Water cooled Ma Duce, very interesting! I'll have to read up on the water fashioning, something I have been assiduously procrastinating about for Alaska.

Look'n good!

Hi Guys:

I have been away from the forum due to moving, working full time again and getting the house in order, so checking out some of the posts.

@Tom: I concur with Hanks assessment of your build. The boats look great, I like the covered one.

@Randy: Guns look great. Looking forward to seeing more progress.

Ok, time for an update. Here's some picture I snapped before it got dark.. I've been wrapping up the main superstructure on the Arizona, taking care of ladders and other small details. The signal halyards were painted to show some grime as I didn't want to show them a monochrome color at this scale. Rarely are they bleached white and get a grey brown color. I finished my funnel and installed it. Now I move to the ship's boats and mainmast area, working aft.

Thanks all! Currently wrapping up the mainmast by figuring out a technique for the six antenna wires & insulators. I believe I have a solution. I won't attach the mainmast until I mount the boats.---more mini-models! or more many mini-models...

While building the ship's boats, I broke away and modified the turret 3 catapult. It was a P4 mod1 which have a single shock absorber on the end as opposed to the doubles on the P6's..

Hi Randy:

Catapult looks great. It's the little things that make this shine. Thanks for the tip.

Alrighty now! I've had time to work on the ship's boats finally and have them completed. I spent some time researching the correct way these were secured to the deck and have got it pretty close. For all I used spare PE chain with some turnbuckles from North Star. Cradles are Eduard, which I added a small plastic square at the bottom of each leg as the mounting plate.

Before I added the boat "stacks", I installed the aft stays on the funnel. There were more forward but it was too late to figure out where they went and mounting them.

Hey Randy: Looks like you are the sole contributor to this "Group Build." Boats look great, the time and effort to add the proper securing gear is paying dividends. They really look the business, the stays are a nice touch as well, a lot of modelers leave these off but they are an important detail.
Looking forward to the next update.

I just read this thread. The work I have seen is top notch and hope someday to be of a similar caliber. I found the portions about rigging too be very enlightening as I am ready to begin the halyards and radio antennas on my Iowa.

I look forward to seeing more progress on the groups builds.

Thanks for the comments Mark, Tom and Hank! After those little buggers I know the benefit of putting her at anchor! Currently finishing up the mainmast. It was about 90% completed so all I have to do is rig the antenna wires on the inside of the tower, add some last parts I didn't want to knock off before now, and then mount the whole assembly on the deck. Making progress!

Ok all, time for an update. I've mounted the boats between the fore and main masts and mounted the mainmast. The mainmast involves rigging the six antenna wires prior to attaching to the deck as well as deciding on the method of attachment to the trunk. Pictures are in and around the stages so far. I need to touch up some places I missed. Now I'm trying to decide on whether to attach some of the railing prior to mounting the model on the sea base.
