PS: Hello all

I have just received the Academy 1/700 Missouri. I now have the chance to compare it with my Tamiya Iowa (New Jersey). I have checked out most of the main parts and they are interchangable with the Tamiya ones. The Academy kit is just a slight bit less detailed then the Tamiya one...and to compensate this it has less missing details! Tamiya kits miss the directors for the quad 40s on turret 2 and 3 and also just behind the quads next to the front armored structure (where New Jersey later had it's swimming pools!) Academy has those. What really makes the Academy kit special is the mask and PE set that is included in the Modeler's Edition. I am looking fwd to using those.
All in all I personally belive the Academy kit gives the bigger bang for the buck and you get a full hull on top of it as well. With just a little bit of scratching and scraping the details can easily be brought up to Tamiya level. Price wise here in Germany the "Modeler's Edition" equals the price of a Tamiya ship. I will post pictures once I have found a new hoster. My PB still works but only until the next paxment term...

$300 for a 1/350 USS North Carolina?!

I will admit, it looks worth EVERY PENNY.

I am still rather stunned, though, that even given VeryFire creating kits that come with PE, and kits that look to be build able ONLY WITH that PE.... That they have not yet designed BOTH the plastic AND the PE parts so that there are alignment and/or placement features for the PE (Like PE railings that fit into a slot molded into the plastic, or small raised plastic "pins" that stick through a piece of PE, that are then cut off, level, with the PE part, that allow for its precise alignment.

Lastly..... I am happy that I chose to stick with 1/700.

Because I am already stretched beyond my budget trying to buy every warship (and as many Auxiliaries/Support Ships as possible) that fought in the Solomons in 1942.

But those are so freaking impressive given the technologies now available for modeling, that it is REEAAAALLLLY tempting to get that 1/350 North Carolina.... That and the South Dakota-class are my favorite Battleships, ever (and the Kong?-class), as the only real Modern Battleships that had a "Fight to the Death" with other "Modern" Battleships (Yes, I do know about the Mississippi being that last Battleship on Earth to shoot at another Battleship. But the Yamashiro and Fus? did not expire due directly to the older BBs - and that the Kong?-class weren't "Modern" by the same standards as the North Carolina-class and South Dakota-Class).

It is a kind of sick-and-twisted nostalgia to think about the Yamato and Musashi (And the remnants of the Kong?-class of BatDiv3: Kong?, and Haruna) having collectively run into the Iowa, New Jersey, South Dakota, Massachusetts, Alabama, and Washington.

But.... Aside from all that....

I hope to see VeryFire expand more into 1/700 ships.

Hasegawa's Kongo class is old. You'd get better details with Fujimi's new releases, such as this one: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10255130 The only issue is the slanted casemates, details on which you can find in the CASF.

I would be interested in comparing it to the Lionroar set. Either way the instructions apprear to use folded brass for the 20 and 40mm barrels. Something I and not a huge fan of so I would end up replacing alll those anyway.

I have both the Very Fire North Carolina set and the old Lion Roar set. I paid 150 for the Very Fire set, not 300. The Very Fire set is MUCH more comprehensive than Lion Roar. The 40MM mounts use folded brass with turned barrels with a resin base, not photo-etched barrels. I think the 20MM also use turned barrels, but I need to pull the set out and check, and I'm at work now.
My biggest problem with the Very Fire set was quality control, some of the radars were badly over etched, the conning tower wrap was missing from the fret, a big square hole. and two of the main gun barrels were not drilled out. Also some 40MM bases were missing. I was able to get all the missing parts, although they only sent me one new 16" barrel. That aside, I would recommend the Very Fire set as only a little behind Pontos and Infini, and much better than the old Lion Roar set.

I think that I have this Cruiser, and the Jintsu in Waterline.

I can't wait to build them, but all of my building has been suspended while my work-desk is dedicated to a project that will hopefully make some money (after which it can return to models, where my current list (see below) will finally all be completed.

And then I can start to work on a slew of IJN Destroyers and Cruisers (These included). I've been trying to re-arrange what I plan to build on kits that are more easily completed.

Well.... I have the basic deck and superstructure for a 1942 SoDak finished to eventually have 3D Printed to convert the Trumpeter kit.

And the Trumpeter SoDak in 1/700 does include a Full Hull (lower hull that can be used instead of the Waterline). But it is in its post-1943 outfit.

It is annoying that no one makes a 1/700 Early-war South Dakota, given the battle with the Kirishima.

Then Trumpeter still has lot to show in the future.

My thoughts on this are:

HMS Belfast: bring up to Modernization with lattice masts etc.
Produce Group 1 and 2 Town Class Cruiser WW2 and modernization (HMS Sheffield, etc.)
Add to this Colony Class, WW2 and Modernization (HMS Kenya, etc.)

All in 1.350, 1/700 too small!
