Apologies the site I just left is wrong.
Try the site below for several 3D tours of Akagi.

Nice link. Looks very similar to the art in the Futubasha 3DCG volume.

Also, if you mean this "tour:"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_cont ... Sb5xxYrNXs
then it isn't bad, if a bit dated. It looks to be from an older video-game, with very low-poly models, and basic UV texture maps (or, rather, nearly complete lack of them).
This one looks to be newer and higher quality:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HipZCOLCmFc
Although still fairly low-poly, only with better texture maps... Or, rather "with" texture maps.
The girl with the mohawk is a bit of an anachronism, though.

Re: Calling all IJN Akagi and Kaga fans
Hi guys,
while watching "Eien no Zero" (which is a great movie by the way, recommended!) I noticed a weird detail on their Akagi render- there was a white smoke coming out of the very end of the 'arrow' painted at the bow end of the flight deck, as if it was some kind of an indicator. Here's a screenshot from the movie:

What's the point of it? Was such detail present also on other Japanese CVs?

Visual indicator for wind speed and cross wind across the deck in case they couldn't steam directly into the wind. More the later, I believe.

Does anyone know if kaga ever ran without the blastbags on the 10 aft turrets?

No way to be certain, but IMHO, unlikely.

Thank you!just trying to figure out if I have to redo all the blast bags, already have to waterline the model because of the horrific steps between lower hull and the slide molds to the bottom

Re: Calling all IJN Akagi and Kaga fans
I don;t have the 1/350 kit (only 1/700) so it's hard to tell anything about the kit pieces. From what I see, there are small blast bags molded on. I would think those sufficient, particularly if you hand paint them white/off white.
I'm curious about your planned technique to waterline it.

Hi all, thinking about doing a 1/700 full hull Akagi using either a Fujimi kit, or the 2015 Hasegawa one. Which one do you guys reckon is the better option? I know that the old mold Hasegawa was inferior to Fujimi so how does the new one fair?
On one hand I'm generally biased towards Hasegawa in terms of quality and accuracy, but the Fujimi kit has the Rainbow aftermarket detail up set which looks to be much more extensive than Hasegawa's wood deck + PE.

Re: Calling all IJN Akagi and Kaga fans
Both kits are nicely done, with good detail and PE sets. I think the Hasegawa flight deck better in terms of its planking (more to scale), but its elevators are molded solid with the flight deck.Tetra also makes a PE set for it. If you use either the Hasegawa or Tetra Flight wooden flight deck, there are brass elevators that could be used to help replace the cut away ones should you choose to open the wells in the flight deck.
The Fujimi version is pretty nice as well. And, as you pointed out, there is the Rainbow PE set with flight deck, and that amazing Rainbow interior hangar deck set to go with it. Plus, Fujimi actually makes a transparent upper hull version of the kit: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10308292
Flyhawk make a PE set and flight deck for both the new Hasegawa and Fujimi versions.
Tough choices .

Thanks Dan, tough choices indeed. That hanger set also creates the annoying dilemma between either having to leave the hull unpainted, cutting a cross-section out, or only being able to the tiny portion of the hanger through the elevator shafts. One of these problems will always persist regardless of how I build the ship.

Hi Dan,just figured I'd mark out the waterline,go to work with the dremel, then sheet it with plastic on the bottom, and decide a water technique!

FineMolds makes some small sets in styrene: http://www.finemolds.co.jp/www/wa-list.html
Veteran Models makes some in resin: http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10071941 & http://www.1999.co.jp/eng/10075820
I believe Rainbow and FIve Star make PE voice tubes as well.
