Just today i had a discussion with a friend about my Allen M. Sumner project i am about to start. He argued that the Sumner does not follow the typical destroyer hull pattern of the USN of that time.
I was under the assumption it was and was content with my fletcher hull schematics to reproduce the hull.
Anyone got any more info to enlighten me?

Re: USN DDs Fletcher and Allen M. Sumner Class hulls
It kinds of depends on what kind of modeling project you are doing.
The SUMNER class was built utilizing the same basic hull shape and machinery layout of the FLETCHER class. But, of course everything above the main deck was different, the layout below decks needed to be adjusted as a result. The sonar was a newer type and relocated and twin rudders were used instead of a single rudder. Also, the hull was 1.5-ft wider with the SUMNER (and GEARING) class than the FLETCHER class. Depending on the scale of your model that may be noticed or it may not. Plus, depending on how accurate ... to scale ... the kit you are using, that may not be a problem for your project.

That was my assumption. Same hull pattern, slightly different dimensions and of course above deck different.
